Tesla To Offer Full Service Self Driving As A Subscription - But Where Is The Catch?
Tesla has confirmed that it will offer its Full Self-Driving package (FSD) as a subscription service, but you should brace yourself for the price.

We reported earlier this week that Tesla is working on a pay-as-you-go subscription for its self-driving package based on some code that leaked in Tesla’s in-app purchase system.

During a conference call following Tesla’s Q1 2020 results, CEO Elon Musk and CFO Zachary Kirkhorn that Tesla plans to offer the package as a subscription service by the end of the year.

That catch is that it will be more expensive over time and if you sell the car, you won't get the uplift from being able to transfer the feature to another user. I'm guessing it will cost $150-200/mo.

Another example of Tesla selling a car equipped with options--this feature being one--that upon purchase becomes the property of the owner who solely has the right to sell the car. Then Tesla illegally takes it back. Tesla will get sued. Tesla will lose.

Yeah, if AP is unlocked it should not be possible to retract it UNLESS Tesla buys back the car themselves before selling to someone else. At that point they can modify the car to be whatever they want, heck they could even put a different battery in it if it makes sense. AP shouldn't be removed if a selling is directly selling to a non-Tesla entity.

As a subscription service, there won't be any ambiguity, the feature will only last as long as the subscription.
