Which Premium Cars, Trucks And SUV's Do YOU Think Are The Best Today And Are Built To Last The Longest?
You've all seen the ads...Built Ford Tough, Like A Rock, The Relentless Pursuit OF Perfection. And in many of these ads they feature vehicles that show 1M miles on the odometer or being hit by a meteorite and then just starting up again and driving like nothing happened. Ok, maybe not as radical as the meteorite but you get our drift.

And driving around I'm sure like me you see the Toyota Land Cruiser's with a billion miles still running or some doctor's old Benz that's got 100 mileage badges on the grill.

Which got me thinking. Are there really ANY products made today that are built for the long haul like some of those.

So tell us your opinion...Are there ANY products that built to last the test of time? And who is making the BEST cars, suv's and trucks in today's world? Can they hold a candle to the products of the past that truly DID last forever?

Honestly something simple and well built will probably last a lot longer than something super tech laden. Porsche 911's are always candidates but they've gotten very very tech heavy and the PDK longevity is suspect. I doubt the Mercedes S class will last. Like their predecessors they get heavy use and despite being made with premium materials only the AMG models tend to be kept for long (and not even that much lately). Maybe something simple like a 4 cyl Honda Accord has the best chance of lasting the longest.

My pick would be a Lexus GX460.

Most are so incredibly complex I'd really say none. With all the electronics, the engine mgt, cylinder deactivation, turbos, etc... I just don't see longevity w/o fixers. See how the Cubans keep the simple 50's cars going and going with parts they make themselves. Thats my answer.... the ones that are the most simple...

Those antique cars that are still in use in Cuba has a lots of innovations inside like engines , transmissions etc from Japanese and Russian cars.

Anything a bit older from Toyota. Everything just works. AC, radio, dash fan, windows motors, shocks, transmission, motor, etc. If I lived in an area with no winter and no salt, there is no telling how long my 4Runner would last.

The irony of premium cars is that virtually none are really engineered to be trouble free. And it is easy to be in a situation where the fix is greater than the value of the car.

Now, if premium is defined by price, then you could point to the Shelbys, Camaro ZL1s, Corvettes, but if premium is solely by brand name, then maybe Lexus.

Porsche for premium brands. Shelby, Vettes and Camaros on reliable lower cost to maintain.

Land Cruiser/LX570 are hands down....by far the best built vehicles on the market currently.

Given that the basic design is 25 years old, they should have it sorted out by now.

The Land Cruiser certainly will last but it really needs an update. The fuel economy in particular is awful for this day and age.

Since PREMIUM Vehicles include lots of things that are really not needed that tend to create the problems - SInce they ALL will have them - they do not eliminate any vehicle BUT

For the Trucks (Which would be similar) And Suvs
1 - Full Frame
2 - Naturally Aspirated Small Block GM Engine (No Turbo)
3 - Would Prefer a GM auto trans - no Dual Clutch

So Mine would be a GMC Truck - and probably a Chevy Suburban Equivalent GMC. Cadillac and Lincoln have too many Trinkets to go wrong. In the end - The Small Block Chooses the NEW VEHICLEs.

AS far as a Premium Car - produced today - that is really really Tough. THe Lexus looses for me for lack of interior room when I am Driving - but with all the new Gadgets - all the premiums are suspect. And people who buy Premiums are looking for these things - but also know not to expect longevity for them.

IF Chrysler had better quality - it would make sense to choose the 300. THe Hemi has been reliable - the 8 speed ZF is sorted out by now - and the basic design is Old enough to qualify for Social Security already. THe Mulsanne has just been discontinued - and it had the Zf trans as well as the Rolls V-8 was bulletproof - but it is made by VW. But it still is a better choice than a Rolls (BMW junk all over).SO - I Guess I would choose a Toyota Century = you did not say it had to be available here!
