WHICH Vehicle Is Your SIGNIFICANT OTHER All HOT And Bothered Over? The One They Keep Telling You They Want SO Badly.
We're always talking about the rides we own or wish for but let's not forget for many of us, we have a partner who ALSO loves them.

And when we're together on a road trip that subject inevitably comes up when they see something driving and they get all hot and bothered over it.

You know the conversation. OMG, did you just see that (Fill in the blank)? What is that? How much are those? I need a new vehicle. And we just have to sit there and nod and listen. Like they do for us.

So which vehicles are they currently excited about? Which ones are they saying that's my next ride or my birthday is coming up, it would SURE be nice to get one of THOSE!

Tell us what are their current front runners?

Literally the only comment I can remember my wife making about cars was when she saw a Lexus in a parking lot and said "What is with that grill - it's hideous".

Porsche 911 - she loves them, she likes BMW M's and was impressed with the Aston Martin DBX private showing. She drives an M235i convertible which she loves.

A manual transmission. She desperately wants to have one again, but options are so limited these days.

She was crazy for her Lexus LC, but it wasn't practical after the fact, so she wanted it to find a good home.

She immediately loved the X7 and is still smitten.

She's very car literate having grown up with a dad and a gang of brothers who are into cars.

When I met my wife many many years ago she and her older sister as young girls would drive around in a 1961 Cadillac with the windows up on the hottest summer days pretending it had air conditioning. A resto mod '61 Cadillac convertible is her dream car now. By the way the one she drove in with he sister back then was a Cadillac Roadmaster, a name plate always associated with Buicks. It was a limited run for only a few years and what made it different was that about ten inches were cut off the back end so it could fit in older garages.

My wife is hankering for a JL Wrangler - and surprisingly, she wants it pretty well optioned up. Initially she wanted the Gladiator, but thankfully after seeing both the Wrangler and Gladiator, she decided the Wrangler was what she wanted.

I suggested a Tacoma, but she didn't warm to that idea.

Now, Toyota is offering 0% / 60 + money on the hood of the Tacoma, the best Jeep is offering is 0% / 36 on the Wrangler, and depsite a gluttony of inventory on Wranglers, they really don't want to deal much past what you could buy pre-CV19 days.

So we wait, until desparation sets in...

Tacoma? I hope she laughed at you.

No, but she did comment that I had a '17 Tacoma TRD Off Road, and since it really hasn't changed that much, it has a bit of, "been there, done there" vibe to it. But having said, all of that, I poise the question to you, what's wrong with the Tacoma? And as a followup to that question, which mid-size pickup do you prefer to the Taco?

I bought a TRD Pro Tacoma to flip for $$ and of all the rides I've EVER had it was THE most disappointing thing I've ever driven. The worst ergonomics of any interior almost ever, under-powered and hypermiling, I could hardly get 17 MPG HWY! Around town 14 for that crap motor. It's only redeeming factors are it will never break and if you're using it 100% off-road (no one is)then that's a good solution for you. If you need it for ANY daily driving you will hate it from the second you open the door.

001,

I loved my Tacoma, at the time, I was actually considering a JK, in fact, you and I dialogued about it, and you strongly urged me NOT to get a manual equating it to driving a bus. I did get the Tacoma, I took it off road, got it stuck in a mud bog that was much deeper than originally thought, it took on water up to the drivers seat, and after getting towed out, the insurance company totaled it. I paid $38k, after 18 months and 50K miles, the insurance company gave me back $36k, not too bad considering. Took the $, bought a ‘17 Lexus IS, sticker was $46k, paid $37k, and have been thrilled with it.

Truth be told, the fact my wife wants a Jeep over another small economy car thrills me, and once the deals are right, we will have a Jeep in our driveway.

@00J The Wrangler is the cool guy that everyone wants to hang out with and the Tacoma reeks mama's boy still sleeping on the sofa because he is too boring for anyone to date. it would be like saying to someone who wants a BMW M3 "Oh just get a Camry" Zero image, zero fun

@MDarringer - I love the word picture you paint with your words. My only issue is the mama's boy still sleeping on the sofa probably doesn't have the money to buy either the Wrangler or the Taco, instead borrowing his mama's '96 Ford Taurus while wearing a tattered and torn Def Lepard concert T-shirt that should have been retired to the wrag pile or the Goodwill years ago.

Now, since you mentioned the M3, I had one, a '08 4-door, that one of my employees totaled while showing off to his girlfriend, an event that I chronicled here (go search the archive under my user name).

Since we are discussing cars, I am curious your take on the new Land Rover Defender. Thoughts...

The Defender looks like a bad Chinese counterfeit Honda Element. It is exactly how the vehicle should NOT have been done They should have done a "Wrangler" and aimed it to the dollar against the Jeep.

My wife has no interest in replacing her '05 Ram 1500. It only has 40,000 miles and doesn't get used a lot. She much prefers no payments. I can't even convince her to let me replace the radio with something that has Bluetooth.

My wife would love a Range Rover or Bentley. I'm happy with my Porsche and my truck. She has her own cars already.

I just sold my Bentley GTC (to a deal in Minnesota for top $$$) and am SOOO glad its gone. If you want a Bentley, just get the comparable VW Group product (Porsche or Audi) to get the same experience for 1/4 to 1/3 of the lifetime investment.

Bentley is overrated. Best VW Group cars are at the middle and top of the Porsche pyramid.

I'm deathly afraid of the maintenance on a Bentley. We have no dealers here so I'd have to rely on an independent. It's just not worth it to me to have to worry that much about a vehicle. I do admire their beauty though.

It always amazes me that someone actually dings all the people above who are making a personal statement, in this case about their wives. Low life for sure.
