VW Arteon Or Toyota Avalon? Which Would You Rather Have Grace Your Driveway?

Before you point out that the car industry doesn’t see the Toyota Avalon and the VW Arteon as direct rivals, just ask yourself this: Are they really all that different?

Their dimensions are somewhat similar, and their starting MSRPs are downright identical. Furthermore, both feature dynamic-looking styling, and are generally regarded as “nearly-premium” products thanks to their strong build quality and high-spec interiors.

Hands down: Avalon. The Avalon is much better looking, much more refined and of high quality manufacture. It will be more reliable. And having driven both, the Avalon is the better car to drive. The VW isn't even close. The Arteon would have been a good Passat replacement at $25K, but it just isn't worth the price of admission. The Avalon is.

You obviously have not driven both of them. The current Avalon is quite nice to drive. The Arteon is very much a mixed bag. The Toyota is Lexus smooth whereas the VW is in need of another year of engineering work.

I would spend a bit more and go with an ES350. The interior of the Avalon is really off-putting. The plastics in the center console of the Arteon are unacceptable.

I think the Arteon looks great, but the interior and driving experience scream family car, not premium car. I’ve never driven Avalon but would choose it anyway.

The Avalon is hideous - the front end only a mother could love....The Arteon looks great and drives just fine for it's intended mission....Arteon ftw

Nobody in the world would ever compare these two! Ive been with both brands nearly 20 years and the average Avalon customer is over 70 where the Arteon is in the 30s. The Avalon is quiet but besides that poor fit and finish and horribly uncomfortable compared to the Arteon. We have sold more Arteons to BMW/Audi/Mercedes owners than anything else as it competes directly with them in the right trim.

You dealer is clearly in Cloudcuckooland. Someone who wants a BMW isn't going to say "You know what? Let me get an Arteon." Drop the crack pipe.
