Another One BITES The DUST. This Time, It's An Acura Model.
Dead. RIP. Sayonara. Another one bites the dust. And this time it's an Acura. From Jalopnik...

American Honda told dealers Thursday that the low-selling RLX will no longer be imported from Japan, where it’s sold as the Honda Legend. The Legend will continue to be offered in Japan and other markets, American Honda said in an email to Automotive News.

“With SUVs leading the luxury market, the highly successful RDX and MDX now serve as volume leaders of the Acura brand,” the company said, referring to its compact and midsize crossovers. “At the same time, we will further strengthen our sports sedans, consistent with the performance-focused direction we have been taking Acura over the past four years.”?

So bye-bye, ta-ta, so long...

The RLX was a HORRIBLE design. It is a previous generation Accord that was crudely elongated behind the B pillar. In person the car looks like a bad repair job because you can see the addition. If you park a last-generation Accord next to it, the Accord shines through loud and clear on the RLX which costs twice as much. Ford did a far better job hiding the Fusion under the Continental.

The genius move for the USA would be to use the Legend name on the new TLX.

In other news, the sky is blue. They should have axed it before spending the money to give it a facelift.

Now, Acura, you need a full size SUV above the MDX and a compact SUV below the RDX. And a luxo and performance versions of the Avancier as a flagship.

And bring on that frickin' TLX Type-S already!

The TLX Type S is going to be a disaster. Just watch, they will dumb down the styling massively and you'll get a prettier accord for $20K more

We shall see. But why would that be a bad thing? The Accord is a car that hits well above its weight class and a better version of that would be a great car.

Stay with me here Cha Cha, why would you pay $20K extra for the Acura when you can save $20K and get the Accord? The "better" version will be unable to justify the price differential.

If the TLX has AWD, a more powerful engine, better suspension, better interior, Yes, I could see paying the premium. Understood, Cha, Cha?

Quite frankly NO, because at that price point you can have AWD Germans that are better than the Acura shit-with-PR AWD.

We'll see. What I can say is that when I test drove the Accord several times, I would easily choose it over a comparable 4-cylinder C-Class, A4 or IS based on my drives of those cars. I can't speak for the new 3 Series BMW, however, the Accord 2.0 Turbo with 10 Spd Auto was absolutely on par with the 435i in Comfort mode...for $30K less. If Honda does it right like they did with the Accord and the TLX is that much better a car, then I have no doubt it will compete just fine. The RDX is compared favorably to the 4-cylinder Q5, GLC and X3 so I'm not really that concerned for the TLX.

That's been their problem for decades now. The cars are not nearly special enough to justify the upcharge from the Honda version.

And how stupid is SHAWD? "Super handling" how Walmart, low-rent does that sound? It's just run-of-the-mill AWD.

TLX doesn’t warrant the Legend name, but they shouldn’t go back to Vigor either. Perhaps Acura will use the Legend name for an electrified flagship sedan.

Vigor was the name and the car that sent Acura spiraling out of control.

When the Vigor failed miserably, Honda wasn't bright enough to say "Damn! That shitty piece of garbage didn't sell." Instead, "buyers had grown tired of names" so they killed the Legend and the Integra and have not been relevant since.

If the new TLX is good, using "Legend" would be a good step forward.

The 2G and 3G TLs were big successes for the brand, rivaling even sales of the Lexus ES from 1999-2007 and beating the C-Class. No, it couldn't touch the 3 Series, but that's also when the 3 Series was untouchable and consisted of every configuration including sedan, coupe, convertible, and wagon, whereas Acura only sold one 4-door sedan.
