The European hot hatches are grossly overpriced with the possible exception of the Fords and the evergreen GTI.

It is amazing to see what these cars go for in top spec in Euros. You have to be close to getting something truly sporting in the used market for that kind of money.

Hot hatches have a faithful following in the US, it's just too scattered of a market, overshadowed by other categories a lot more voluminous and profitable to seriously entertain. Also by the time they come to the US they look nothing like their European origins, overbloated and castrated.

The problem for the GTI and the Cooper S is that for the same money you can get a Mustang GT that will obliterate them for performance and yes, some buyers see that.
