States Line Up To Sue Trump Administration Over Fuel Efficiency Standards That Would Save Crippled Automakers Millions

The Trump administration finally rolled back Obama-era fuel efficiency standards in March even though it seemed like a stupid fight to pick in an industry that wasn’t seriously asking for it. This was always going to be a mess, and now 23 states and several cities are suing the administration over it.

The lawsuit, filed Wednesday, will likely eventually end up in the Supreme Court, as The New York Times notes. The suit contends the fuel efficiency rules are based on, well, a bunch of errors and logical leaps.

Totally a counterintuitive move. The states don't give a shit about clean air. That's not what this is about.

All liberals are pathetic cowards... they’ll waste taxpayer money on a suit they know they will lose, because they can and because of hate. Cowards...

At this point the automakers might not be able to invest in the new standards. So the states have a choice, accept a delay in the clean air standard, or expect unemployment to rise in that sector.

Getting to be push vs shove

It really is time for states' autonomy to be curtailed 90%.

Emission standards/mpg should be 50 state and controlled by the Feds solely.

My kids should not receive a substandard education because they live in California. Education must be federalized to protect kids.

All primary elections should be on the same day and reporting prohibited until all precincts have closed. National elections should also have a media blackout until all precincts have closed.

There should be a National Voter ID system with a photo ID required to vote.

This is the best part of the article...90% court cases losses under Trump. Not a surprise when you base your arguments on falsehoods and lies.

After the final version of SAFE is published, it will go to the courts. Its odds of survival are unclear. Historically, regulatory agencies win about 70 percent of their court challenges, Lienke said. Yet under the Trump administration, agencies have lost more than 90 percent of their cases, according to an ongoing tally from the Institute for Policy Integrity.

Many of those losses came in cases like this one, in which agencies published false, misleading, or fundamentally erroneous explanations of their own rules. In June, the Supreme Court held that the Trump administration could not add a citizenship question to the 2020 census, because the Department of Commerce’s internal motivations did not match its publicly stated reasoning.

And Ford is not onboard either and is going to cut a deal for a higher standard with California. A sensible automaker following its customer base and doing the right thing for the planet.

Likely having a good laugh at Trump as he tries to use an executive order to try to prevent social media companies from calling him on out on the lies he puts in almost every post and tweet. There is nothing wrong with mail in voting and it has been used quite successfully in the USA many times. The only people who are against it (GOP) are those afraid of higher voting participation as it messes with their well thought out Gerrymandering plans.

Executive orders worked for Obama, till Trump got rid of almost everything he did. So much for legacy.

Facebook and Twitter WILL be put in check after November. They are violating the First Amendment.

Twitter and Facebook are free platforms that you join and agree to abide by a set of rules. Being active on them is a privilege not a right. If you posted all the stuff the President has you would have been banned a long time ago. If he gets himself banned, he will have nobody to blame but himself. And putting a link to check the facts in a tweet is not violating the first amendmendment. Itis a PSA for all those who read the tweet. Compare the tweet to the facts in the PSA and make a decision for yourself like an adult.
