FIRST VIDEO: CyberTruck! Do You Want YOUR Truck To Be Bulletproof Or NOT?
Here is the first full video of the Tesla CyberTruck being tested by none other than Jay Leno. I've never been a fan of Tesla other than I'm happy it's an American company and that I like seeing the best innovations come from the USA. But the more I see THIS product, the more I visualize Tesla doing to Ford, GM and RAM what the sedans did to BMW, Audi and other legacy brands.

In fact, I think when people look back on when Elon's company and say what was the moment when things really got real, it will be when it starts shipping in volume.

And I've said this more than once now. UNLESS the old school truck people have new trucks with revolutionary designs like never before along with materials like stronger metals, different glass and utility, they are gonna get the LIVING SH_T beat out of them in the high end pickup truck race. All that will be left for them in 5-7 years will be the commodity, low end strippie market.

Doubt me? Well my record of predictions over the last twenty something years has been infallible.

Message to Ford, GM, RAM and Toyota..You'd better wake the you know what up. Notice has been served.

Because if you sit on your laurels and wait too long, you will lose to the NEW LEADERS In APOCALYPSE Technology!

When I first saw the Cybertruck I was aghast. Over the past few months it's slowly grown on me.

Now I'm convinced it's far beyond a niche product and will do some SERIOUS damage to the competition.

That seemed like a lot of fun. I'd love to hear the pop of a Sagaris in the Boring tunnel LOL.

Anyone who thinks they can easily bulletproof the fugly truck has no idea what it really takes to make a vehicle small arms fire resistant. There's a huge difference between being able to stop a 9mm round and a .45 cal. And then there's the ever common .223 of AR 15 fame, and 7.62x39mm of the AK49. You'd have to double or triple the weight of the vehicle to stop those rounds, and also make the windows fixed in place. So if you're ok with driving a 15k lbs fugly truck with windows that don't roll down and tires that cost $1k a piece, then by all means go ahead and get a "bulletproof" FuglyTruck lol.

I think it's 7k lbs and the windows definitely roll down.

Can't wait for the real world road test.

Cybertruck looks polarizing and cool, but one of the reasons Model S/3/X/Y are so popular is that they feature great 'ease of use' - i.e. you can see out of them and they are generally very well-designed (if a little generic).

Not sure what the market is for the "cyber-truck" aside from customers who think it looks cool.

In the CNBC show with Jay Leno, if you listen carefully, Elon Musk said that "Cybertruck is great as it is..but its 5% TOO BIG" so the one change we will make it to make it smaller.

So since Musk is prone to exaggeration, to me, "5% Smaller" seems to me like that would be really mean more like "20%" smaller and that the production CyberTruck is going to basically be an angular and stretched Model X.

Call my cynical but since this is clearly not the production version, is Musk setting us up for disappointment?

I think its a moot point because I doubt the Cybertruck will ever see production - which is why the 'deposit' is only $100.

If it does seem production, it will be substantially smaller than the prototype currently in public relations circulation. The Cybertruck is basically Tesla's marketing effort.

Musk has since tweeted that they will not be shrinking the Cybertruck after all:

"Reviewed design with Franz last night. Even 3% smaller is too small. Will be pretty much this size. We’ll probably do a smaller, tight world truck at some point."

Thanks for the update RunningLogan/SJD - since I believe EVERYTHING Musk says and he would never tell a lie, I guess that settles that.

@mre30 You should know by now that the Radical Democrats instantly believe what they are told by their captors.

What I find ironic is that if Hummer were a viable brand doing an EV truck rather than the masturbatory exercise that GM has planned, the Cybertruck would fit the bill as a too-large, in-your-face, style statement. GM is likely to re-nose a Silverado, throw batteries in and call it good. The juxtaposition of Elon Musk and Mary Barra isn't good for Mary Barra. Maybe her lover Johan can get her a job ruining VW.

At 7k lbs with windows that roll down, there's a chance it MIGHT stop a crappy 9mm round, but not the +P rounds, and certainly not the heavier faster bullets. It's a marketing gimmick and only fools think their FuglyTruck is invicible.

I hope it's a marketing gimmick. If we need bullet-proof cars, we have much bigger problems. The cybertruck might have come in handy for the riots that are happening right now. So many cars were damaged all around the US.

My eyes! Imagine stopping behind that cement block at traffic light! Urgh! I would steer away from that vehicle if I ever see one on the highway too. You bound to get your windshield rock-chipped if you drive behind that vehicle!
