CAR WARS! 2021 Acura TLX, KIA Stinger Or Genesis G70? If You Had To Own ONE, Who Gets 1st, 2nd And 3rd?
For some reason the auto manufacturers seem to feel that as this lockdown and boredom ends, the pandemic winds down, that YOU the customer are REALLY interested in......

SEDANS AND COUPES? Whaaaa?

Well it sure seems that way seeing that out of the gate since Memorial day BMW showed the new 5, MB the E Coupe/Convertible and today the 2021 Acura TLX.

Seems to us Ford should have shown us the 2021 F-150 seeing that it was pickup trucks that were the big hits during this apocalyptic-like time.

But what do WE know?

So back to this new Acura that dropped today...Usually, Acura disappoints us right out of the gate on their exteriors but shows a nicely put together interior.

This time with the 2021, I have to say for the first time in a LONG while, I'm digging the exterior of the TLX. But the interior? There's nothing off putting about it but it looks like it came out of a ten year old MDX. You would think it would have been fresher.

Even though most people think sedans are rubbish these days between the new Acura, KIA Stinger and Genesis G70 there are some decent choices, IF you want a sedan. The jury is out on that. FAR OUT.

SO we ask of these three excellent candidates to occupy your garage, which would YOU choose and how would they rank 1, 2 and 3?

Spies, discuss...

#1 Stinger
#2 G70
#3 Acura

#'s 1 and # 2 are RWD based always promise the best in handling. Also the Stinger still has that show car looks. The G70 still being RWD but personally I like the Acura's styling (finally) over the G70.
The Acura is # 3 because first its too dam large and long and it is FWD based. The styling finally has some real punch to it. If it were simply 4% smaller all around it would be a strong # 2. The G70 has a better front end style being related to the G80 and 90. The rest of the car, however is too generic looking. The Kia really still stands out and the Acura is greatly improved. I would say this is the best looking Acura sedan in years.

Now if I'd have said that, Carlosasslicker would have lost his mind for putting the Stinger first.

FYI - Acura’s new SH-AWD system will be able to transfer up to 70% of power to the rear wheels. That should definitely change the driving dynamic significantly.

Acura does NOT have any AWD amazingness that isn't at everyone else's fingertips too. SHAWD is 100% marketing bullshit. It's like when Subaru concocted "symmetrical all-wheel drive" as the way to describe and market what was at the time by far the least up-to-date AWD system.

Agree and same reasoning as well.

New TLX looks pretty sweet and I bet the Type S is going to be a great drive.

I'd need to know the engine stats on the Type S twin-turbo V6 and the pricing details before I made that buying decision. I do think Acura made the correct choice to start over from scratch. The Beak is at last dead!

1. Stinger GT2 AWD (unique styling, great versatility with the hatchback)
2. TLX Type S SH-AWD (nice styling update and roomier in back seats than G70)
3. G70 3.3T AWD (gorgeous, but small back seat and trunk)

Acura TLX
Kia Stinger
Genesis G70

The Stinger still garners plenty of gawkers on the streets, but it reminds me of the ever-aged Genesis Coupe, but with 4 doors.
The G70 has almost zero presence on the road. Such disappointing styling execution.
The TLX will have better road presence with its increased width and lower stance. While not a "gorgeous" design, it is attractive and well proportioned.

From a driveability standpoint, Acura's SH-AWD system is hard to beat, which is why I would choose the TLX. Based on what I've read, I would expect the Type-S to be an incredibly sharp handler. The Stinger, while a hoot to drive, doesn't have the quickest reflexes. The G70 has quicker reflexes than the Stinger, but I'd go with the Type-S.

1. TLX (AWD models only) - SH AWD is probably the second best AWD system out there (after the Audi Quattro models with torque vectoring). If the Honda v6 carries the tradition of smooth V6s from Honda then it will be a step up from the Hyundai powertrain as well. The interior of the Acura looks the best to me as well. Best exterior styling.
2. G70 - Will probably be more refined due to the longitudinal engine layout.
3. Stinger - A fun drive, but it is starting to already look dated on the road because of some of the cheesy styling details (fake hood scoops, side scoops etc.)
