A TOUGH Test! Give Us ONE CONVINCING Reason WHY Anyone Would Choose A Porsche Boxster OR Cayman Over The 2020 Corvette?
One thing there is no arguing with is that if you've ever driven a Porsche Boxster or Cayman, it's EXTREMELY difficult to find a sports car that handles BETTER.

But if you're over six feet tall they are cars that are extremely hard to live with day to day. THEY'RE TINY!

And if you've looked at one recently, to buy one configured with all the right options it costs MORE than a 911 did a few years back.

But NOW, there is a REAL choice that in our estimation beats those cars on every single level other than snobbery.

The 2020 Corvette.

I've been seeing a number of them on the street and actually might even buy one down the road. I saw one today drive by a Boxster and it looked like it was passing a Fisher Price toy. Sorry, I'm originally from the Buffalo, NY area and FP was an institution there so I had to throw that in.

So maybe I'm missing a few key points blinding my logic so educate me/us.

Give me ONE really convincing reason of why anyone should but the Boxster/Cayman over a nicely appointed, 2020 Corvette.

I'm waiting...this will be a hard test...

As a Canadian, you often see a Corvette of the previous generations with a full hockey bag, skates and a few sticks under the glass hatch. You can't do with that with a Boxster or Cayman or a new C8. I would pass on all three and pick up a C7 or C6 if I had to have a sports car but did not want to give up practicality. There is a cool C6 Z06 7.0L in yellow with a cruise missile logo on the quarter panel below the Z06 logo usually found on the golf course in my area. He gets it.

Thanks for re-posting for those of us who didn't read it the last 7 times you alerted us to the fact that there is a subset of Hockey players in Canada who are also Corvette owners...

The Corvette--yet again--is the better choice for the money and it will be far easier on the wallet to live with.

Well, realistically the question can be: why would anyone buy any other sports car besides the Corvette? I mean, the Vette's performance rivals almost any other exotic car so why pay 4-8 times that for other Italian exotics?

I don't think these cars are cross shopped that much, if at all. Corvette is the stereotypical car for a retired blue collar guy. Nothing wrong with that, it's a great car. But no one where I live in Los Angeles would sell their European sportscar and buy a Corvette.

This. 100%. Just because cars are in the same price class doesn’t mean they’re automatic alternative purchases. The Vette and Cayman/Boxster buyers are two very different clientele looking for very different products. My friend who owns a Boxster would NEVER even consider a Vette. And my friend who owned a Vette would never consider the Boxster. To me they are two very different choices that are prices similarly. Not unlike say, say, a Miata vs certain trims of the Camaro or Mustang.

This is a common misconception. Sure there are fanboy psychos, but marketing research DOES SHOW that people compare premium vehicles--Porsche included--by price.

Gee, let me think. GM is a for-shit company and I refuse to give them a single dollar for anything.

As an auto enthusiast (it has nothing to do with "snobbery") - much respect to the Porsche and Corvette.

Previously, I was fortunate to own a 2013 Boxster, awesome car, and I'm 6'5" - In my two years of owning the car, I didn't find it to be "extremely hard to live with day to day" but I'm also athletic and don't weigh 300 lbs. so that helps.

One of the cars in the household now is a C6 Corvette Grand Sport. Also a awesome car and going against the above mentioned owner stereotype, I'm white collar.

Past intros of new Corvettes initally were the same, matches or bests the European sports cars for bargain price, but in time the reality sets in.

It's not always about the most powerful engine, fastest 0-60 | 1/4mi time, the most grip or the fastest lap time. There are many many factors that go into the enjoyment of a sports car, the deftness and feel of the steering, the power delivery, the handling on the limit, the human/machine interfaces (pedal placement, instrument clusters, shifter placement if it exists, etc...). I certainly know the Cayman S and older R models were fantastic drivers. I haven't driven the new Corvette but it certainly has high expectations and the reviews I have seen are generally very positive. In short it is impossible for me to say that I would take the Corvette over a Cayman GTS or similar until I have driven both back to back.

For the true enthusiast at this point Cayman GTS is the best choice. Both the 911 and the Corvette have gotten too big and heavy at this point.

I have a C8 in the list of 2020 to be built. I got on the list but did not make the first 2,700 built. I'm on the fence still - keep my 2017 incredible Aston Martin V12S (Silver with tan interior) or mostly for financial reasons- replace it with the C8 - also silver with tan interior? I can afford the V12S, and it will continue to devalue some (most has already been hit), but is more likely to hit collector status and have the value start to rise in the next few years, especially with Aston Martin's latest moves after 5 years of dumb decisions. At the time I ordered the C8, I felt Andy Palmer was going to tank the company - not so much anymore. So that's no longer a factor. What is a factor, is that I can sell the V12S which cost me $2K annually for tabs on the plates in Minnesota, and another $2K inspection just to keep the warranty valid(I have 2 years left on the factory warranty) - take the equity and pay cash for the C8, no $ just to keep warranty and probably $2K less annually in tabs and insurance. I'm still struggling with the decision, but the C8 won't arrive till fall, so I have some time.

I feel for you. There is a white Vanquish with a black interior that lives at a home down the street from my house. I get to see it on the dog walk in the summer. It is a remarkably beautiful car. They have a matching Maserati Levante in white as their daily driver I suppose. White as a vehicle colour is in the top 5 in Canada. Odd as they spend 8 months of the year dirty. But you often see 3-5 white cars at an intersection where I life. Crazy.

A 10 year old Vantage ($150,000 new) is worth in the $20,000 to $50,000 range.

Aston dealers were telling customers "buy the V12 Vantage, manual shift because it will be collectible.."

Spoiler alert - your 2017 Vantage will be worth $40,000 in six years and if its the manual, it will be worth even less because the douche-boys can't drive stick.

Trade it for the 'Vette.

Porsche makes a better product that is overpriced. But then they always were. The mid engine Corvette is much improved. Still it's not made as well as a Porsche, only available in an automatic tranny. For me the new Cayman GTS.
