IF The New BMW 4-Series Pics That Leaked Are REAL, Did Munich COPY Infiniti? Are World's COLLIDING?
00R and I were chatting earlier when the 2021 G22 4 Series (M440i) photos leaked and almost at the same time we texted each other the same thought.

And it wasn't a pleasing thought. It's one of those things where you read it and you shake your head in wonder and think could it be TRUE?

WHAT were we so blown away by?

That to OUR eyes it looks like BMW copied INFINITI with the new 4-Series Coupe profile. And even threw in a little NISSAN GT-R where there would normally be a Hofmeister kink? Don't know what that is? Well, maybe you AREN'T a car person if you don't know. GOOGLE it.

So take a look and tell us DID they do the UNTHINKABLE?

Munich is running out of ideas, first they copied the mustang via 8 series, now the 4 series imitates the Infiniti, unfortunately for bmw, the Infiniti and mustang wore both styles better though

Well, design copy can be forgiven if you can do it right
So far, not to bad

Pretty sure they're real.

Don't understand the abandonment of the Hofmeister kink.

There is a tiny hoffmeister kink hidden in the shadows of the photo...if you squint you can see it.

Karim Habib and Adrian van Hooydonk both need to be fired for this atrocity.

If BMW spreads this grill to its other models, I bet sales will decline by over 25% YoY. BMW's design chief will rightfully be out of a job for designing the vehicles that lead to such a massive drop in sales.

Obviously the focus groups were vision impaired.

The big nostrils work on the X7 because it is a big vehicle. In person that look works very well and in that context is quite handsome, BUT using that technique on the 4 Series is a mess by doing an "Edsel". BMW should have gone full retro with 4 round headlamps, set in a black horizontal slatted grille and back to the narrow kidneys with the grille canted forward. That would make this a lot more acceptable but the DLO is ZERO BMW DNA. The tail is very fat-assed looking.

I will not upgrade any of my BMWs with one that has the "Edsel" nostrils. They are hideous. Right out of the playbook of Lexus. Even more ridiculous on their proposed EV lineup.

oohhh I like your idea on the headlight/grill treatment, could be modern yet harken back to the shark models or even the 3.0 era. This is clearly crazy to abandon (hoffmeister kink) or totally mess up (kidney grills) the trademarks that allow anyone to identify your brand of cars instantly.

Infinity copied BMW and now some egg head is claiming that BMW copied Infinity. Laughable stupidity.

No, is not stupidity. The 8 series is Mustang glorified and yes the profile looks like a copy (If is not) then is a very bad design as this 4 series. UGLY as hell.

From these shadowed pictures, yes there seems to be a similar profile, but the details are nothing like the INfiniti. There is a 3rd picture third picture on that IG page that has another angle and it looks nothing like the Infiniti.

Anyone complaining that BMW is copying Lexus' grille approach, this 4 Series grille is more reminiscent of BMW's own 303 back in the 30's and more cars in the 40's where the grille was very large/elongated.

Sorry for not being so clear in my comment. Lexus was one of the automakers that started the huge grill concept. Flow-through air to the radiator was more a a requirement in the 30s, hence the big grill. I don't think as necessary today vs back then, for both ICE and EV. Lastly, they are still hideous!

So make the car generic from all angles, and then tack on that ridiculous grille to make it look "aggressive"....great plan BMW.

I have so many issue's with this design I don't know where to begin. Forgetting about the grill for a moment. This has got to be one of the blandest looking coup designs I have seen in a long time. Yes it is generic Infinity G37. It's as if BMW didn't even try to make it interesting. It appears their decision was to simply spice up the front end as a way to distinguish it from other generic coupes. As for the front end. BMW heritage has been the twin grill going back 50 years or more. There is nothing wrong with using this as a design element. It simply would have been nice if the designer was not taking LSD when he penned the front end design. It almost seems like it might make a good logo for "pigs in a blanket". This 4 series design does not hold a candle to an Audi A5, Any Mercedes Coupe etc. I don't know how you say "abomination" in German.
