Bankrupt Nissan Finally Has A Plan For Infiniti - But Don't You Need Money For That?

The course Infiniti plotted to guide it safely through the 2010s met with bad weather and hidden shoals, leaving Nissan’s premium division idled and taking on water. Sales dried up, as did its once-promising partnership with Daimler. Even a restyled compact crossover with an innovative engine failed to raise anyone’s pulse upon its 2018 debut. The thud could be heard for miles.

As it embarks on an austere new midterm plan designed to solidify its financial standing, Nissan has a new course in store for Infiniti. Say hello to the “Nissan-plus” brand.

What does that mean...they will rebadge lightly dolled up Nissans and sell it under the Infiniti Name. Nissans probably have some of the worst interiors on the market, so at that point the "Nissan Plus" will be at Honda/Toyota interior quality. That will be a huge fail. No one buys their crossovers, because anyone to test drives an Infiniti crossover, then goes to BMW, Acura, Lexus etc will immediately notice the crappy CVT and never look back.

Sounds like badge swapping to me. Someone should tell Nissan the story of the Cadillac Cimarron or that you cannot put lipstick on a pig and ask for steak prices. Just build a better car geared to buyers needs and wants.

Odd now that Acura is moving away from the perceived "Honda plus" approach, with the TLX clearly distinguishing itself from the Accord, the RDX prior clearly distinguishing itself from the CR-V.

Just fold up Infiniti. It used to make such promising cars. And the article stated what I stated: the fact that their QX50 failed so definitively in a segment that is incredibly robust, was a key sign of product fail.

They are gunning to close business. Sad. From a company that practically pioneered the sports-SUV segment that so many brands are offering products in today (FX35/45) and brought us the G35 Coupe.

So take the horrible Altima with the nasty CVT and make it a badge-engineered Infiniti. THAT will be successful? It also sounds like a new naming scheme is in the works to replace the current confusing one that replaced the previous confusing one.
