Wow!. I don't even know where to start. I see some Mustang in the side profile, I see anteater or ardvark in the front, that snout, why? I get it, BMW design language has really become blah, complacent, vanilla, but the solution of doing a reverse nose job does not solve the problem instead drawing attention to the plainess.

A couple of weeks ago I saw the new 2-series grancoupe on the road, I thought it was a Kia.

BMW used to be something special, my, how the mighty have fallen. Almost makes you wish for Chris Bangle design language to return, and at least make a design that stands out as a BMW even if it is polarizing, versus ugly. This car makes the Bangle designed 7-series almost seem good looking.

Too bad.

Fire them all...everyone responsible for this sorry excuse of a BMW...collect your things and immediately leave the premises.

Bye, bye Habib.

I'm reminded of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe from a few years back.

No more "kidney grills"....more like "LUNGS" on the front fascia.

Why didn't they just go with a rear hatch? They could've added a wiper for the back window then.

That’s the best looking Lexus on the market right now ;)

Not really sure how I feel. Looks like something GM would have produced, not a German brand. Though the rear 1/4 profile feels like the A5, the greenhouse says Malibu, and the front end says anime.
Just a really odd combination of design elements that don't feel cohesive or effective. And where many criticize the C-Class coupe for a droopy butt, the rear of this car feels like silicone glute implants.

Maybe it will grow on me. But for now, the C-Class Coupe remains the best looking car in its class. And now the A5/S5/RS5 is 2nd.

I just had a visual. The front end is the next evolution of the 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix.

VERY Pontiac...a dead brand.

I like it more than I expected.

The vertical orientation of the grilles is unique, and it visually draws the whole car up into a tight package. It doesn't have the "manta ray" feel that wide low design language engenders; the kind of look that characterizes Lamborghini and towards which the current 4-series coupe leans.

That look isn't bad, but this new 4 series is different. It visually "feels" like a metal slug fired out of gun, a super-compact bolt of energy.

The front license plate ruins it though. It cuts the grille in half and destroys the visual intent of the front end. I'm sure there's some BS EU law saying that all cars must be shown with a legal front plate, and blah blah blah. I hope in the US at least, people go out of their way to skirt the front plate, because it really damages the car in my opinion. You'll probably get a lot of those boy-racer "side" plates that are shifted to the right, like you do on a lot of Giulias.

I have the new 7 with the big grille, and I live in a front-plate state, but I roll around without one because otherwise the front design loses its power. Haven't been pulled over or caught yet, and if I am, the fine is worth it.

To that end, I'm concerned that BMW is saying "screw it" to the front plate requirements and plowing ahead with designs, rather than working around it. Because you know the designers know the front plate ruins their work.

It's the bucktooth Bimmer! So sad what this brand has morphed into...

Forgetting about the grill for a minute. This is one of the blandest looking, cookie cutter styled coupes I've seen in a long time. It's as almost as if the higher-ups said to the design team "you've designed a boring car. You better do something to the front end to spice it up a bit". Well the designers certainly spiced up the front end-just not in a good way. So what we end up with is a boring looking car with a hideous looking front end. Double fail in my opinion.

Indeed. As soon as you see the side view, the drama of the face is gone and the tail is similarly dull. So, your conjecture could be correct, but let's say that the face is what BMW wanted, then the rest of the car needs to have the balls to be that garish too.

I'm going to avoid the Christmas rush and start hating it now. Even the ridiculous "angry bunny" front end can't save the incredibly derivative styling. Adrian Von Hooydonk needs to go, when was the last time BMW had an original design that looked like a BMW under his leadership. Waste of a good drive train.

It's as if they put all their energy into the back and sides and ran out of juice when they made it to the front.

I said the other day that I hated how the front bumper echoes the shape of the giant grill (as seen on the blue one above), but the white one without that design feature is even worse.

Not to mention how the license plate makes this whole monstrosity look like a giant license plate frame. Did the designers not realize that cars in most locales have a front plate?

Curious to see if there will be any positive reviews of this design anywhere.

I'm just wondering when the design guys were conjuring this front end design up if they needed some kind of inspiration. So I was thinking perhaps what they did was to take an old BMW 1600, put it on a pulley and track and smashed it into a wall at 30MPH. Then they use the damaged front end as their design inspiration. I believe it was Chis Bangle that said sometimes car design is supposed to make you uncomfortable. In this way you will not forget it. I think BMW has achieved their goal.

There's no more wishing this was a bad joke from BMW.

The 4-Series is a complete disaster from ridiculous front grill to continued cheaper interior versus its competitors.

The front-end is so bad that the front license plate actually makes the car look BETTER than without a front license plate. Take away the front license plate and this will look ungainly.

I predict this design will cause sales of the 4-Series to drop at least 30% year on year.

The only reason it looks like this is because if it took the front end of the new 3 series, it would have looked very similar to the 8 series. Definitely not what BMW wanted so they had to really give it a very striking front end to deter from the 8's direction and 8 series client's complaints about how an inferior model looks almost identical.

This model already looks like it has had its time, long in the tooth, and needs replacing.

I have read online on another forum that there are tuners who are already designing replica 3 series bumpers with grills to fix this problem. It does seem to look alot better in darker colors and M package than the light colors in base trim.

The M4's buyers will be really deterred and more than likely go for the C63 coupe or RS5 Coupe. This is just a really unattractive front end design although the interior is lovely. The rear is not bad at all either, but that front end is a complete zero for me.

Did they legalize mushrooms in Germany?

Actually, the grille was inspired by a glimpse of Merkel during an examination at her "mommy parts" doctor. Habib, wanting to support the Fourth Reich, did the patriotic thing and immortalized that moment in the grille. It is also why the rest of the design has no balls.

AND!!!....who puts a lic plate on the front fascia for new model reveal/introduction photos?!

They knew them "lung" shape grills would overshadow most of the other design revisions.

So, who'll buy 8 series coupe now?
Probably will be one-shot like previous 6 series
