On Sunday night in Boston, after a large peaceful protest all hell broke loose around 11pm. While the local ABC crew was filming live a high end apparel store was broken into across the street. Looters ran out with arms full of coats, boxes of athletic shoes, Uggs,etc. Many were on their cell phones, and soon late model cars starting pulling with young people (black and white) jumping out and running into the store re-emerging with arms full of goods. Only a few realized that they were being filmed with close up views of their faces. The camera folks started to zoom in on the license plates of the cars, which were all in state. This went on for almost an hour to the disgust of ABC crew. Cops never showed up. The mayor(D) spoke the next day, appropriately supporting the early protestors, but said squat about the later lawlessness. In itself that said a lot.

The mayor did address it, however briefly. He said it was quote "an attack on our city and its people". The police themselves were busy trying to control Downtown Crossing and just outside the Commons.

I think the mayor was trying not to let the looters and criminals become the larger story and usurp the message of the protestors.

It's really a shame these crimes are happening, but over-policing and killing of black people has to stop.

If you're black and you are murdered, your murderer is overwhelmingly likely to be black.

I'm also open to seeing that data adjusted for population. There are more white people than black people in America, more than twice as many, so even if it is true that white people are "twice" as likely to die at the hands of police (citation needed), that still proportionately works out to the detriment of black people.
