General Motors Says It Is Done Gutting The Company - Should Have Lower Cost Structure

General Motors should emerge from the coronavirus pandemic with a permanently reduced cost base after it scrambled to reduce its cash burn to withstand a two-month shutdown in North American production as part of efforts to halt the spread of COVID-19, CEO Mary Barra said Tuesday.

"We were quickly able to take out significant costs and we are being very conservative about what costs we turn back on," Barra said during an investor event with Credit Suisse. "I believe we will come out of this with a lower cost structure that is permanent."

It will be interesting to see how the new EV plan is executed except GM has so many failed launches in the last 10 years, there is simply no track record of any success. Everything they've done in 10 years has been underwhelming and substandard to their competition. They lead in no category and everything is ehh... Vette is the only exception...

Someone tell Mary that gutting GM isn't over until the market tells you its over. Consumer sales will decide GM's future not its CEO's hopeful proclamations. Does anyone believe GM's share of the market won't continue to slide and that further cost cuts wont be necessary?
