WHICH Car, SUV Or Truck Have You Talked Yourself OUT Of Buying Recently???

WHICH Car, SUV Or Truck Have You Talked Yourself OUT Of Buying Recently???
Life without honesty is a terrible thing and we ALL have our issues.

We're going to talk about a subject that many of us do NOT want to admit to.

But that's OK. We're all among friends here. People who even though they may not publicly say it, ALL face this demon regularly.

So let's finally bring this out on the table and get REAL. We owe it to ourselves and the people we care about.

Us car people all get caught inside this psychological game going on in our heads.

That place in our brains that constantly rings out where we discuss the pros and cons of buying or NOT buying a car, truck or suv.

Not real you say! We say BS!

If you're being true, on a daily basis we're always thinking of should i sell or trade my car and should I get THIS or THAT. Happens to me at LEAST once a day.

And it's innocent. I'm out there minding my OWN business and then I see a vehicle or I'm online and i see an article or someone shares a pic and IMMEDIATELY, the mind begins to RACE!

Wow, that thing is gorgeous we all say and the wheels start turning. Sometimes we give in and the next thing you know is you're sitting in the finance room signing the papers.

OR, after a couple hours or so of suffering through the psychological warfare you find the will and strength to talk yourself out of it!

So Spies, first ADMIT to the problem, then tell us WHICH car, truck, suv or other vehicle you talked yourself OUT of getting recently?

I'll start. An OJ-Style Ford Bronco EDDIE BAUER!

Oh yes the iconic Bronco. My weakness is German and comes in the form of a w124 E 500 developed by Porsche and Benz, I’ve literally had to delete the contact number of a seller of one I know because the force is strong with that car!

A guy in the UK got wind of me paying asking price for the Jensen and gave me first shot at his Jensen FF. I've seen the car in person and I love it. The condition is incredible. I pitched it to my wife and she said "do whatever" but I decided not to pull the trigger.

When I was car shopping a year ago, I was really interested in the Honda Clarity PHEV. 50 miles of EV range in a comfortable sedan, if just a touch funny looking from some angles. Then I drove it. The mistake was making my first drive in a car that had no charge in the battery, so it drove as a normal hybrid. Noisy engine, and the CVT just made it worse. I went to a different dealer, and they had one with a reasonable level of battery charge, and it was like night and day. Even with my initial misgivings, I was still considering it.

What finally dissuaded me was looking up the manual online and watching a YouTube review. The infotainment system is completely lacking any EV information, including battery status, charging status and time remaining, and other stuff you expect to find in a plug-in car. The final nail was the review, because he demonstrated the extremely tiny opening from the trunk with the seats folded down. I was considering a short term job move cross-country, and I needed enough cargo room to carry what I needed with me for 1-2 years (clothes, computer stuff and a 43" TV). I might have crammed enough in the car, but the TV would never have fit without being visible from outside the car while I was at an overnight stop en-route. So, I went with a Niro PHEV instead. I wish I had more EV range, but overall am very pleased with the car.

Earlier this year was really interested in a new 911 4S cabriolet and test drove one. Great car. But every time I configured one to my personal specifications to maximize driver dynamics and look the price exceeded $160,000. Came to conclusion I could buy other great driving cars at half the cost.

Did you decide on something else?

I'm also astoundingly good at letting go of cars. When the 2015 Mustang was due, I snagged a loaded GT for list. Drove it off the lot and on my way home stopped at Albertsons for some things and was approached by a guy in the parking lot who offered me full list plus a big chunk of change. The next day the car was his.

2016 Ferrari F12 - I think its the best value Ferrari out there - low to mid $200's for one of the last Ferrari V12's.

Really wanted it but acknowledged the limited opportunities to drive it and enjoy it (crushing traffic and terrible roads) where I live (NYC area).

I tried to talk myself into it (financially) because I really like it and I do think its got great collector potential but I would really only be storing it for a future sale - which is not the business I am in.

Too bad MDarringer isn't as astoundingly good at being emotionally intelligent.

Lexus GX. I was just so tired of the endless visits to the dealership for issues and recalls. Thought the GX could be a solution. Still may do it but waiting to see what if any changes for next year.

You made a wise decision. The handling of the GX is disturbing.

When it became time to replace my Chrysler MiniVan - I spent considerable time looking at the Mid-Height Ford Transit 12 Passenger Van.

I still am not enamoured by any Ford Turbocharged 6 cylinder and I still love the Stow and Go rear seats of the New Chrysler I bought. But reality - the Transit was just too big to be a regular driver for me.

However - when I inherited the two Phantoms - both had less than 1000 miles (one old one - one new one) but being allergic to wool - the cost of replacing the Rugs/headliners was eye popping to say the least. I sold the old one.

Was going to buy a full loaded carbon fibered Range Rover Sport SVR and call my insurance company and they gave me the “quote” and I was really happy to just buying a regular Range Rover Sport! LOL!
