The lung-shaped grills would make more sense with the overall design, if the headlights sat a bit lower on the front fascia.

seeing this new design next to the 30-40 yr old BMW, then it makes a little more sense. but i think this is an exercise of being different, just for the sake of making something new.

The grill looks awful on every 4-Series. It looks particularly pathetic on light-colored vehicles where it sticks out even more.

It's almost as if BMW's CEO told the head of design to create a vehicle that would see the biggest sales collapse from one generation to the next in BMW history.

If that was the mandate, this new 4-Series in the answer.

People remember Chris Bangle's 7-Series well but that vehicle actually sold well. This 4-Series is a design disaster and it will be a sales disaster too.

If this grill spreads to the rest of the BMW lineup it's all over for BMW.

Totally agree, I have to turn my eyes away from lighter colored 4s. Black and dark blue is about the only ones I see being sold at all, if even those.

The designer must be working for a BMW competitor. This car is sabotaging BMW.

It's really bad when a car gets uglier with each new view. Usually, designs grow on me, but this one just isn't. And it's not just the grille. It's the profile and just the overall design. And even the finer details are not helping to enhance the look.

I have owned/leased 2-door 3/4 series for 20 years.....and had expected to get another one when my current lease is up...but not this time - I will make final judgement when I can see it in person, but I can't imagine it will look a lot better in person than it (doesn't) in pictures

Same here. I had a 435i Gran Coupe recently and absolutely loved its entire design. The hood and front fender lines and the body crease to the rear were stunning. I was so looking forward to the new 4 Series and am crushed at what it looks like. Really just horrible.

I will say that the grill sort of works on the new upcoming I4. I also prefer the shape of the I4 over the 4 series coupe.
