A New Halo Car: If Mitsubishi Churned Out A New 4000GT Sports Car Would It Help?
If you rummage through Mitsubishi’s lineup, you’ll notice something missing – a sports car. Well, it’s missing anything sporty, really. The Mitsubishi 3000GT, the early 90s Japanese sports car that made even Ferrari nervous, packed power and advanced, for the time, technology, and it barely made it into the new millennia. The front-wheel-drive Eclipse survived a bit longer, but now the automaker uses the name on a crossover. With Japanese automakers beginning to churn out new sports cars – ahem, Supra – a slew of new renderings reimagines the 3000GT for today as the 4000GT.

No. They need a competitive SUV lineup. Bring back the Montero as a top of the line midsize with striking design and quality fit and finish. And build off that with a line up down to a sub-compact SUV. Get rid of every model name they have used for the past 20 years.

Agree with your suggestions except EVO name has legs.

Good point. Bring back the EVO, but you cannot afford the very cheap interior of the Lancer.

That's exactly what Mitsubishi does NOT need.

They first need cars that are not 25-years-outdated shit boxes.

They then need to fire their styling department.

Firing the person responsible for first letting the EVO languish on the horribly outdated Lancer platform and then letting it die must be a priority.

EVO should become a trim level across the brand denoting AWD, big-power turbo engines, and hunkered-down handling.

The Eclipse needs to return to being a coupe that is sized and priced like a Mustang and used as the declaration of intent for Mitsubishi's way forward.

A pointless halo car like a 4000GT would be moronic.

Perfect timing in the economy to bring back the "no payments for a year" program.

Mitsubishi got into big trouble with flimsy financing.

People don't realize that "no payments for a year" tremendously benefits the lender because they charge interest in the balance the entire time and lengthens the contract a year.
