Infiniti Plans To Solve It's Problems With More Power - Isn't There More To It Than That?
Infiniti, Nissan’s luxury brand, has been suffering the same pains as its parent company. Sales are down in its biggest market – the US – and the company is searching for a path forward. Earlier this month, Infiniti’s Chief Operating Officer, Ashwani Gupta, began laying out some of that plan only for Infiniti Chairman Peyman Kargar to further flesh it out in a new interview with Automotive News. Kargar details how Infiniti won’t reduce the number of models it sells while hinting at the future of the brand’s powertrains.

Infinitely searching for an identity wont cut it. All the years and money it wasted not knowing what the brand stands for will not be turned around easily if at all. Marketing and product consistency over many years is what builds brands and a strong consumer following. No one knows what this brand stands for so know one cares to buy one. Heavy discounts move a little metal but does not create brand loyalty or desirability.

For performance, the power isn't more power. The 400hp RS line does not perform better, or even on par with, lesser powered rivals, i.e., the M340i, C43, and S4. The problem appears to be how that power is put to the ground.

The other problem is, well, everything else. Interiors are dated. Designs are bland mixed with gimmicky (get rid of that awful C/D-pillar). There's no prestige. There's no halo car to help.

Infiniti has struggled to find its identity since 1989. This, the car company that started the "premium sporty SUV" trend that is dominating the market now with almost every premium brand X4/X6, GLC/GLE Coupes, Cayenne Coupe, RR Velar and Sport, Q8, Levante, Stelvio, Urus, and DBX.
This, also the company that gave us the sublime G35 and coupe. Two rare vehicles that seemed to drive as close to, if not equal to, the BMW 3 Series sedan and coupe at the time.

Then they completely strayed from that focus and that's when the company got lost and stayed lost.

It's hard to compete with Lexus on luxury, but Infiniti does offer RWD and the best design among Japanese 3, so power/performance war could be a good solution

They need to start from scratch.

Their halo car should be the Infiniti GTR repurposed from Nissan.

The Qsedan and Qcoupe should be marketed as Skylines.

Big SUV? Infiniti Patrol
