Customers Are Refusing Model Y Deliveries Over Quality Issues
Ever since Tesla restarted Model Y deliveries after reopening its Fremont factory, new buyers have been reporting some significant quality issues.

It’s not unusual for new vehicles to have some quality issues early in their production ramp.

At that point, automakers are still trying to tune production processes and with a higher rate of issues, more of them can slip by quality control.

However, when it comes to Model Y, it appears to be a greater problem than usual even by Tesla’s standards.

The car is fine, but this work is just people being sloppy. They can do much better.

I remember seeing photos of a new Model 3 that had a one door in different color than the rest of the car, and another with a missing a back seat. QC apparently takes extended vacations.

When you go from computer screen straight to production without rigorous prototype testing in between, this is what you get. The seat belt that pulled out of its anchor was ridiculous. The pilot cars that other manufacturers don't sell to customers are what Tesla puts out to customers defects and all.

Designing and engineering a good vehicle is one thing. Developing a system to build it to a consistently high standard is another. Tesla should take some lessons from Toyota on the latter.

The usual suspects have already gone into damage control.

I've seen similar from GM and Ford. Not acceptable to me, and would have it fixed.

This has been known for a long time across all model lines. Also know, is that some parts are in terribly short supply and some customers have had to wait months for parts.

Did they let people build them from home?

Tesla Model Y - DIY home assembly kit.

Order from home & Tesla logistics ships owners their vehicle in a single container unit. Owners only need to perform the final assembly in comfort of their own driveway, garage, alley, curbside. lol

I have a family member getting one on Saturday... fingers crossed he doesn't have any of these issues.

So far I have sat in one and have seen 3. The one I sat in was VIN ~500, and is used for test drives in San Jose. Panel Gaps were good, seats were good. The one shocking defect for me is that the T-logo in the back was slighly crooked...

PROs
- Tons of room, in the back seat you can put your feet under the front seats. Feels like business class on a plane.
- The black trim looks great, the same look costs $2-3k to do on a Model 3 and is standard on the Y. They also use heavier tint than the 3.
- Overall the car looks nicer than the 3 in person, especially with upgraded wheels.
- Power liftgate is a plus, tons of storage in the rear with two hidden compartments.
- Glass roof looks phenomenal

CONs
- $6k more than a Model 3
- Slightly slower than a Model 3
- Visibility seemed to be not as good as you would expect from a higher car since they basically just elevated the Model 3 dashboard
- Rear seats seem stiffer and less comfortable than the 3
- Still working out quality issue kinks

Personally, I think its a better value and purchase than a top of the line Highlander or Pilot. Tesla needs to up the game in the quality department though.

Does Tesla have a final quality inspection person before the cars are set to ship to catch these defects?

Theoretically, have no idea how they could have missed some of these items
