M V8 Power and Performance Full 2021 BMW M5 Press Release

2021 BMW M5 Full Photo Gallery

The 2021 BMW M5 is powered by the S63 4.4-liter TwinPower turbocharged V8 engine producing 600 hp @ 6,000 rpm and 553 ft-lbs. of torque from 1,800 – 5,690 rpm. The M5 Sedan accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (190 mph when equipped with the optional M Driver’s Package).

The M5 Competition Sedan’s engine tuning increases power to 617 hp @ 6,000 rpm and offers a 170 rpm-wider torque band, 553 ft-lbs. @ 1,800 – 5,860 rpm. The Competition model accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (190 mph when equipped with the optional M Driver’s Package).

The engine features two-turbochargers, cross-bank exhaust manifolds, direct injection and upgraded cooling and oil supply. The cross-bank exhaust manifolds improve turbocharger and throttle response by reducing the distance the exhaust gases need to flow to reach the turbochargers. Water-to-air intercooling helps reduce the temperature of the incoming air for improved power.

Overall should be a great car. First AWD M Sedan, should be interesting to see how it does against the competition. Two of many gripes I have with BMWs recent stylist is that they seem to lack tasteful imagination (only horror story style imagination these day re: new M235 GC and 4 series) and the stupid rear diffuser area where they put those black plastic piece that totally ruins the rear look of the car. If they are worried about having a fat arse then look at tying the taillights together with some styling trick of something else, but that giant black plastic thing that runs 1/2 way up the rear bumper looks horrid.

I like it. It looks like what a BMW should be. Leave the boy-racer styling and psuedo-modern look to Nissan.

The first problem BMW has is that on the road, the 3 Series and the 5 Series look indistinguishable. From a marketing standpoint that's not ideal.

The second problem is the utter dullness / datedness of their styling that looks straight out of 2005. Granted that might be a blessing with Habib thinking the pig snout is gorgeous.

I'm sure this is a great drive, but the boredom factor of the container makes it a pass for me.

Why do I like this and hate the regular 5 series. I think a lot has to do with wheel selection on the regular 530. The regular 5 series does not look special at all, and too conservative vs what a conservative sport sedan should look like.

I find the center stack design to be old and not to stylish with a stick in larger infotainment screen. The rest of the interior is nice and the Recaro seats look comfy. The exterior continues with the Series 5 look. Overall, it is for a BMW rich fanboy! Doubt many will be run at the track. Very nice powerful performance luxury sedan.

This is the best looking BMW in many years. All other BMWs need to be styled more like this one.

Nice! If you are desparate for a BMW, ALWAYS wait for the Mid-Cycle Refresh (i.e. LCI, Life Cycle Impulse) as BMW fixes most of the things that were wrong on the new rollout during the first three years.

That center screen, though. Maybe they should have just used the smaller one that was already in use? It looks like a college kids dorm room huge flat screen.

Years ago every second generation BMW introduced a new styling direction keeping the brand fresh and interesting...but over the last so many years the slow slight evolutionary design changes create a flat stale reaction to so many people myself included. Great driving cars mostly of need of a fresh new design direction.

It's good. It fits the traditional German approach of understated. There is a part of me that wishes something popped out a bit more like the AMG Panamericana grille or larger fender bulges.

What's different? Not enough.

The grille of M5 should NOT get bigger, but it can change from cheap vertical slits to something much fancier
