I think most of these will be junked by the time the battery pack needs to be replaced.

A pertinent article would be about the process for dismantling and recycling EV's.

Do they go to junk yards or are there special EV junk yards?

Not sure, but the battery is the only dangerous part of the car and it can be recycled. Everything else can go anywhere other cars go. I think given their durability EVs will be a round for much longer than traditional cars, perhaps they can be repurposed with newer batteries. There is also a growing market for short range, cheap EVs. If you're okay with 70 miles of range, you can get an EV for $6k.

People buy the batteries, part them and use them for either EV conversions or RV and house batteries with their solar inverters. EV batteries have quite a bit of capacity and life left after they are no longer fit for serious automotive propulsion use and are too valuable to just junk them.
