In 2018 Elon Musk Threatened To Build A Site That Calls Out FAKE NEWS And Writers. Is This Needed MORE Than EVER TODAY?

You see the news and it frustrates you. Because when you boil it all down there really are no more journalists anymore, just activists and party pushers no matter WHICH side they cover. But seeing Fox is the only major network that leans right, it's more visible on the left leaning sites, which are the majority in 2020.

And we're NOT just talking politics here, we're talking about ALL subjects, especially cars in this case.

When I started Auto Spies and first saw behind the curtain in this biz it blew my mind to find out that the game is ALL bought and paid for. Not direct bribes from a company to a writer (although that HAS happened) but things like, you get first access to say the new Corvette IF you make it your COVER story when we launch. Or we picked your product as car if the year and it's EXPECTED ad dollars and other considerations will show up as a thank you note. We joke here that the Car of The Year awards are the best awards money can buy. Because they ARE.

So it was refreshing to read Elon Musk call them out in this 2018 article.

"The holier-than-thou hypocrisy of big media companies who lay claim to the truth, but publish only enough to sugarcoat the lie, is why the public no longer respects them," Musk said.

Musk added that he'd start a website that would evaluate "the core truth of any article & track the credibility score over time of each journalist, editor & publication."

"Anytime anyone criticizes the media, the media shrieks 'You’re just like Trump!' Why do you think he got elected in the first place? Because no ones believes you any more. You lost your credibility a long time ago."

In another tweet, Musk wrote that the problem with the media was that journalists were under pressure to draw attention to their stories and bring their publications advertising dollars.

"Tricky situation, as Tesla doesn’t advertise, but fossil fuel companies & gas/diesel car companies are among world’s biggest advertisers," Musk wrote.

So do you agree with him? SHOULD he do that and if not him who should?

It is actually easy for a reasonably smart person to go to REAL experts on a subject to find out what is or is not real news. You just have to understand that people who claim to be "knowledgeable" does not mean they are.

Placing that "job" in the hands of one self centered egotist is not an answer. It is just creating another level of smoke screen. I certainly would not trust Musk to decide which politician is saying the truth.

Although it has taken a while for Twitter and Facebook to step up, they are now identifying fake news and hate on their platforms and kicking people off who just spew hate like that woman in the UK. More work needs to be done on this front for sure. As far as a website dedicated to it, there are better things to do with your time to make the world a better place.

Considering 100M people did not vote in the last Presidential election, regardless of what side you support, get out and VOTE this November and make your voice heard on this issue and any others that you support.

@FAQMD- The fact you can't accept that all Trump (and those that support and enable him) has done is spew false statements and divide America and insult almost every ethnicity (and gender) under the sun since he came down the escalator to announce his candidacy, is really quite surprising.

Remember, Facebook and Twitter have use terms you agreed to when you joined this FREE service. You can't really complain you are not getting your money's worth. No can you really complain about the decisions they make. Some think that certain folks should stay on Twitter for their millions of followers. Others think they should be banned. Ultimately it is their call, their platform. their win or loss for doing so.

Except that they are in violation of the Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act because their removal of "objectionable" content is not done "in good faith" i.e. it suppresses conservatives and spams the Alt-Left. They are also in violation of that because there is no legal recourse for those who were censored. With other forms of media, the entity doing the censoring can be easily sued. Fuckerberg is overreaching.

Just put Faux and OAN on constant rotation. In actuality it is not terribly hard to determine the truth from lies. About a month back I was watching Faux which I do on a regular basis and they were bashing Warren who had said that Trump had defunded various programs that are part of the CDC. Of course the Fox host immediately said this was a lie and that Trump had increased funding to the CDC. Most viewers probably went along with that and thought Warren was lying to embarrass Trump. However the CDC posts their budget every year, including how much goes to which programs. So you can go to their website and see for yourself. I will let the readers here determine who was telling the truth. Amazingly this goes on day after day while you can go check at your own governments websites (most run by the executive branch by the way).

You may not know this but the 1st and 2nd and all the other amendments do have limits. Can't yell fire in a theater is a common analogy used to show when your first amendment rights end. "Categories of speech that are given lesser or no protection by the First Amendment (and therefore may be restricted) include obscenity, fraud, child pornography, speech integral to illegal conduct, speech that incites imminent lawless action, speech that violates intellectual property law, true threats, and commercial speech such as advertising." In addition with the right wing judges in power we now have corporations considers as citizens. Now they can contribute to campaigns, have free speech rights etc... However they are not bound by the 1st Amendment as alll the amendments are restrictions on government actions not a corporations. Seems like a lot of people have no idea about the basics of our government and how the constitution works.
