Think The Tesla CyberTruck Won't Be A Success Because Of Its Apocalyptic Looks? 650,000 Pre-Orders Says You're WRONG!
Tesla employees say that they are seeing a surprising number of potential customers coming into the store because of the electric pickup truck.

Even throughout the pandemic, sources told us that some Tesla stores were getting hundreds of Cybertruck reservations per week.

Now Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives is out with a new note to clients today, and he says that the firm puts reservations at now over 650,000 Cybertrucks.

According to a previous tally, only 17% of reservation holders want the single motor Cybertruck, which is the less expensive version starting at just $40,000.

We're in the middle of the biggest global financial crisis in 90 years.

1/3 of all US homeowners did not pay their mortgage payments in May. You think they are going to buy cars?

Home prices are up YoY by 4%, despite covid. It's not been the apocalypse everyone predicted... yet.

"It's not been the apocalypse everyone predicted" You insensitive, oblivious moron! Millions of people were put out of work. Millions of people lost what little savings they had just to survive. Thousands of businesses went permanently out of business.

I meant apocalypse in terms of death counts per capita, not economic damage which has been insane.

The deposit is only $100 - unlike the deposits for the Model S, Model X and Model 3 which were much higher and had much more predictive value. A $100 deposit is so relatively immaterial that it is not predictive of a future order ($100 is 1/10th of 1% of a $60,000 price). Tesla deposits used to be up to $2,500.

From 'Teslarati.com'....10/2019

"American electric car manufacturer Tesla has lowered the required deposit for its lineup of vehicles. A look at Tesla’s order page for the Model 3, Model S, and Model X, reveals that the company is only requiring a $100 non-refundable deposit from customers who wish to place an order for its electric cars. This makes the company’s entire electric vehicle lineup more attainable for buyers due to its smaller deposit. However, it comes with a catch. Unlike its previous setup, which required a fully-refundable deposit of $2,500, the recently updated $100 deposit is non-refundable. This means the buyer will only have to pay the $100 deposit, along with taxes and fees at the time of ordering, but they would have to waive their $100 if they choose to cancel their order. Orders can be accomplished through a credit card, or through Apple Pay, an option CEO Elon Musk rolled out in order to make it more convenient for Apple users to purchase Tesla’s products.

It was $5k for my Model S in 2013.

I still think a lot of the people with deposits will go with the truck. The pent up demand is insane and with $0 in federal incentives, many people may end up flipping the truck. I think it could make a great rental for people that need to move things or want to go camping.

This truck will sell easily over 100k units per year. For the price, I might consider getting one.

Elon Musk said himself in a recent Jay Leno interview that the current Cybertruck is too large to fit in a standard sized garage so he said it had to shrink in size (by about 5% to 10% but then he back-tracked on that comment).

If the Cybertruck will not fit in an American garage which even an Escalade ESV or Suburban can, it will not find a market.

There is so much Bull Sh*t surrounding the Cybertruck its ridiculous.

The CyberTruck is Elon Musk's version of "let's build a big beautiful border wall" - neither are going to happen.

The last mainstream vehicle available for retail sale that did not fit in consumers garages was the Hummer H1 (i.e. the Iraq invasion Hummer) and while it was popular in its small niche, that small niche was it. Sure the 'Super Duty' pickup trucks or even the Raptor do not really fit in normal garages either but they are either work trucks or purchased by people who have a place to park them.

The market for the CyberTruck is very limited.

In addition to consumer financing concerns, the secondary market to sell slot positions and to flip these is huge. The underlining question is how many of these deposits will be exercised by owners planning to keep their trucks. Its a big country, these trucks will find many buyers, the question is how many.

The 650,000 pre-orders are (1) what Tesla SAYS they have, (2) they are secured by tiny deposits that don't require commitment, and (3) some of which are just so shallow people can claim they have a Tesla on order.

The last time this bullshit happened was with the Model 3 and Tesla didn't even bother to fill the reservations first.

This is just carpetbaggery by Elon.

The demand from parts of Eastern Europe and especially Russia will be massive amongst the wealthy. You are going to see bucketloads of Cybertrucks in Moscow flipped quickly from original American buyers For a good profit and shipped overseas. The brutalist design is spot on for current trends and is especially popular in Russia and China for that matter.

It's a mythical figure that means nothing. When people actually see how truly FUGLY the FuglyTruck is, and then they realize they need to fork out over $50-70k for the piece of junk, that's when the shit will hit the fan and folks will be saying "no thanks".
