WATCH: British Firm Rises To Take On Land Rover With An Off Road Utilitarian Theme

Just three years ago, in 2017, Ineos Chairman and car fan Sir Jim Radcliffe decided to do something other car makers seemed to be shying away from: produce a vehicle with off-road ability at its heart, a utilitarian car where form followed function.

This is the result, the first model from Ineos Automotive, and a car that takes its name from the pub where the idea was first formed. Auto Express was invited to Ineos HQ to take a look at the Grenadier and meet some of the team behind it.

Hopefully they got some good advice from Magna and this is the same recipe as the new G-Wagen. Being bigger in every dimension will aid in utility and client SAT. A modern ergonomic interior will help as well.

@MD- Hard to say. This has no back story and is a copy / amalgamation of a bunch of designs. Will it become an IT car with celebs? Or just a car for those who want to go way past the obvious choices and maybe shop at ORVIS? Time will tell.

As expensive as it will be, it's too pricey to scratch up, so this will be a Rodeo Drive toy.

@MD- A better question is how do you make any money to pay for new plant and all the comes with it when you only make 25,000 cars a year? At $100k USD each that is $2.5B in revenue. More if it is calculated in Pounds Sterling. My guess it would be closer to $200k in price so $5.0B in revenue. Question remains does a market exist for a unknown brand making a modern Landy Defender?
