Moreover, getting infected is what you WANT TO DO. You do not want to avoid it. Getting it allows you to build an immunity that will lessen the severity of the mutation that the virus will do. Those of you who are avoiding COVID will be at far greater risk with the mutated virus, but you're moronic Democrats probably, so if you die, good riddance.

Now I know.

I'm sure no one around here is surprised it's @Darringer.

20 percent of Covid-19 infections result in hospitalizations. So, no, 99 percent of are completely harmless is BS. Many of those infected have health issues for months afterward. Sweden tried herd immunity and if failed, bigly.
The fatality is hoovering around 1 percent, but higher than that in Florida. I agree that the pandemic is politicized, but republicans are killing their base. I prefer to believe in science and experts.

Some data. In our state which was a hot site in April, the current cumulative ratio of 8340 deaths to 112130 total confirmed cases is 7.4%. We just finished Stage 2 (little allowed inside and always masked) in early July with a steady trend of 15 deaths/day to 185 new cases/day which is still 7.5%. This with masks and social distancing actively followed by the vast majority of people. Therefore the death rate for those who contract the disease is much higher than .5%. As the young man in Texas just found out, going to a Covid party isn't a good idea. His dying words. "I thought it was a hoax. I made a mistake."

Just to give you-all some facts, in Canada we had 221 new cases announced on Sunday. I think the USA had 60,000 new cases.

Ignore the White House. Listen to doctors and scientists and your surgeon general who is encouraging you to take action. Where a mask if you go out to any indoor space. Stay home as much as you can. Don't go to a bar or a restaurant or night club or mass participation event. Wash your hands. Be safe. Keep your kids safe. Keep your country safe.

The USA can overcome COVID-19 but only if you all pull together.

@MD You can tell the 130,000 dead American's relatives that they just went for a drive and are not really dead. The current WH is completely incompetent to the extreme and should really just let the experts handle things.

Typical Alt-Left bullshit reasoning that produces a factoid but gives no context.

Obama had a "pandemic" during his administration and didn't acknowledge it until 200K people died.

It's pretty hard to compare numbers. Canada has a population of 39 Million people, Texas (where we are based) has 30 million alone.

Texas has about 275,000 cases for an infection rate of about .92%
Canada has about 108,000 cases for an infection rate of .27%

It does show the locking everyone down does stop the spread for sure, but for how long? Texas never really locked down. Right now the risk is higher than before and less of the Canadian population has been exposed.

HOWEVER

Texas deaths are 3340 are about .01% of the population
Canada deaths are 8790 are about .02% of the population

So Canada has a significantly higher fatality rate if infected.

If you want to get really goofy:
Texas has tested over 97,000 people per million
Canada 86,000 per million

honestly that is pretty close percentage wise.

One may argue the higher death rate in Canada could be environment, average age or even quality of health care, either way Texas let the spread occur and saved more lives while Canada locked down and couldn't save as many lives.

The point is to look at all of the numbers and not settle on just one.

@Agent009 - The comparison of Texas and Canada is closer as the population figures are not far off. But my point stands. We are at the backside of the curve and should soon have no new COVID-19 cases. Both nations got into this mess at the same time. We decided to do something about it, the USA has spent 6 months in denial and is only now starting to take it seriously. It's all about mindset and the acceptance of science.

Not sure we are at the backside of anything yet. Polio started in the late 40's and stayed with us to the late 70's.

At any rate you weigh your risk level and make decisions based off of that.

I do think the US could have done better in general but they depended heavily on the WHO for guidance and the WHO trusted China. So a lot was blind leading blind being led by lies.

1,200 medical professionals in Seattle signed a letter proclaiming that it was just fine for thousands of people to ignore social distancing guidelines to protest and riot. The news media approved as well, going from non-stop advocacy for social distancing to complete silence the second the protests and riots began. To this day, there's a refusal by many to acknowledge the role the riots played in spreading the contagion. Surely, if social distancing guidelines can be ignored to riot, they can be ignored to for any other activity.
