15 States Band Together To Advance Electric Heavy-Duty Trucks
A group of 15 U.S. states and the District of Columbia on Tuesday unveiled a joint memorandum of understanding aimed at boosting the market for electric medium- and heavy-duty vehicles and phasing out diesel-powered trucks by 2050.

The announcement comes weeks after the California Air Resources Board approved a groundbreaking policy to require manufacturers to sell a rising number of zero-emission vehicles, starting in 2024 and to electrify nearly all larger trucks by 2045.

@MD - It's called change. Suit stores, Saddle makers, hat makers, horse carriages, 2 stroke engines, wooden tennis racquets... etc. You may not like the government mandate, but market forces have already started truck manufacturers on this path. So it will continue..

Be ready for a large business to develop providing everything needed to keep those diesel trucks on the road longer and longer. If that is more cost effective than buying a new electric it will fly. Look at airlines that buy used planes that are not as efficient as new ones, but are more cost effective.

@CC No, it's called destroying independent businesses.

@MD Can we wait at least and see what the new BEV truck cost first? It will be a competitive marketplace. They may cost more, but not lots more vs a new Semi. EVen that SUV that is a copy of a Defender is said to be priced at $65k. Go figure. Maybe these will be well priced too.

CC Its the total lifetime cost that matters. That includes things "up time" available to be on the road, as well the need and cost of component replacement (batteries vs engine rebuilds) over the lifetime, typical operating costs, etc. A LOT of technical change needs to happen to bring the two into comparable costs, or even better to make the EV a knockout advantage that makes it the clear choice. The point is if it isn't a knockout humans tend to stay with the old.

CC doesn't want facts. He only carries about being an SJW. Details are irrelevant.

@MD- We have no details. That is kinda the point. Nobody knows the cost of these Semi's. The running cost or the battery replacement costs. Complaining without any facts is just dumb. But kinda par for the course these days.

Wait and see and then judge.I can't believe all the mfg who are getting into this space are doing it based on a napkin calc and have not run their number thoroughly.
