Why Not Take Two? Tesla Launches Model Y Lease Special At Just $499 A Month
Tesla is launching leases for Model Y in order to increase demand for the electric SUV.

Things have been moving fast for Tesla with Model Y.

With Model 3, Tesla didn’t launch leases until August 2019 — two years after starting production of the new vehicle.

Leases are popular with premium vehicle buyers who are looking to often upgrade without worrying about resale value.

I was super excited about this until I saw that it required $3,500 down and was only for 10,000 miles.

I'm finally seeing them more often amidst the sea of Model 3s and S's in Silicon Valley and think is looks much better proportioned than the 3 in person. It's a really nice looking CUV.

If there wasn't still almost two years left on my Niro lease, I'd have considered this. But yeah that mileage limit is a bit low for me. I went with 15,000 per year, but partially because of COVID I'm only at 12,700 after 14 months. I'm not certain if I could have stayed under 12,000 per year if it wasn't for COVID, but before it hit it was looking like I might.

Many leases want $2500-3500 down, so that's not too unusual. I put $1000 on mine, but I was also underwater a couple of K on my Outback. So my payment of $490 really isn't bad.

They already have to do something to increase demand? Uh oh.

The Y is ungainly looking and stylistically is a massive stumble. It needed to look like a crossover and not a porcine, pregnant Model 3.

Model Y not getting rave reviews - some have said that its height and suspension makes it "tippy" and motion sickness provoking.

So it'll cost $21k over 3 years if you work in the cap reduction. Not terrible, but if you drive a lot, it's obviously better to own.

Audi is offering leases here for $3500 down and 7500 miles/year and $0.25/mile over. Ridiculous.
