Which Design MOVES YOU MORE? BMW 02 Reminiscence Or The CURRENT 4-Series?
What do the Riva and Sanlorenzo yachts have in common with this unofficial BMW concept? Well, David Obendorfer has been working for the Officina Italiana Design of Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta for 12 years as part of the design team. In his spare time, he also enjoys reviving cars from yesteryear by imagining how their modern-day equivalents would look. His latest project creates a bridge through time by rekindling with a concept from 1972, adapted for 2020.

The spirit of BMW’s very first EV, the 1602 Elektro-Antrieb, is alive and well in David’s 02 Reminiscence concept. He envisioned the modern-day equivalent with just about the same footprint as a 2 Series Coupe, and while two-door sedans are now a thing of the past, the shape proposed by the artist is hugely desirable.

Certainly an interestingly retro take so we thought we'd ask.

Which design moves you MORE? This 02 Reminiscence or the current 4-series? And which one captures the essence of the companies heritage better?

The nasty scab over BMW design has been 20 years in the works, this looks better obviously, but some scar tissue remains.

Just hire the Bronco designers and let them figure it out.

Better than anything BMW has in the lineup at the moment with the exception of maybe the M2 and 8 series. I'd like to see the same artist take a stab at a retro themed electric 3.0 CSL (E9), as it always had better proportions than the 2002.

The 02 Reminiscence is as hideous in its own way as the 4 Series.

It is both boldly deriative and yet boldly unique at the same time. It seeks to be retro without being cartoonish, or larger than life. It appears as though it would be roughly the same size as the existing RWD 2-Series. Sadly, BMW just isn't bold enough anymore to produce something this cool. Kudos to the team that designed the concept.

The comments here reflect the mediocrity of the masses. People complain of bland automotive design and the sea of sameness, yet when confronted with something unique they reflexively recoil. It's why we keep getting the same boring designs from automakers.

This is as bland as Mother Teresa's nightie.

I think it looks pretty cool, a nice compliment to the simplicity of the original. Unfortunately, these neo-classics do not age age as well as the original. Ford Thunderbird a prime example of this
