Would YOU Trade The 2020 BMW M2 For An Eight-Year-Old Porsche? This Guy Did. Is He Mental?
So that's it really. I was hoping the M2 would by my last car for a long time (i've had SO many over the last 10 years), but it was just as short lived as the rest. I had to think a while before i sold this one, but its the best decision for me and i feel the 991 is a better platform for me to keep around for a while.

I gotta say though, the engine in the M2 is tremulously powerful and its crazy how quickly that thing gets up to speed.

But at the end of the day, the 991 offers a way more rewarding driving experience for me while still being relatively new.

So Spies, there's your snippet explaining his reasoning.

Would YOU make the same move or is this dude mental?

Drive what you want. I would happily trade my first born for a E30 M3!

I'd trade the M2 for anything else because I think it's a terrible car that isn't worth the price of admission.

Makes complete sense for him. I'm now driving a 2011 E90 M3 w/ DCT. I really enjoy the naturally aspirated V8 and it sounds great. I drove a 2009 335i 6MT before it and I don't miss the clutch pedal 1 bit. But to each his own. Now that my car is 9 yr old and has 67K mi on it, I do look everywhere for what I might need or want to replace it with. Repairs are only going to get more expensive in the future. I only need 2 seats now and would want something at least as fast and even more fun to drive if I were to switch cars. I looked at a 991 Turbo S that was only about 2yr newer. It sold before I could decide. The engines in most recent turbo cars also need to meet European noise regulations and are pretty dull from a sound perspective (see recent R&T review of Ferrari F8 Tributo and how the sound is missing). So if we can't get good sound any longer and want to boost performance, may need to go with electric. Need to fix the power density and weight issues over time and no current electric offering appeals to me, but seems like the sweet spot for performance vehicles right now is used and 4-8yr old.

Tuner cars like M cars and AMGs are silly.

A base 911 Carrera costs $99k. A BMW M2 car is a 2-series (base $36k) with $23k of tuning. Who would spend $23k tuning a Corolla?

An unappreciated and dirt cheap sports car available right now is a 3+ year old Maserati Gran Turismo - with the 4.7L Ferrari V8, non-turbo.

You can get one for $30,000 and the engine sound alone is worth $60,000. While I wouldn't call it reliable, its at least a simple car.
