Rivian Pickup Delayed Until Next Summer

Rivian Pickup Delayed Until Next Summer

On Friday, electric vehicle startup Rivian said it expects to commence deliveries of its all-electric pickup and crossovers next summer — placing the company roughly 6 months behind schedule.

However, before we crap on the company for being another novice EV company that can’t hack it, it should be said that product delays are quickly becoming the norm within the industry. This postponement may be indicative of nothing more than Rivian confronting the same hardships experienced by practically every other automaker in operation — though cash should not be among them.

Of course it is Rivian has done this before. They pretend to be near production and then there is a delay. Then they get more money and get near production then there is a delay. Rivian is a scam.

Rivian will be fine. They've got Amazon, Ford, T. Rowe Price and other capitol backers with very deep pockets. They just don't want to repeat Tesla's mistakes with respect to quality issues. It's the conventional auto dealers that need to worry as more auto sales/rapings will be headed away from dealerships. I'm sure this worries some of the old guard

"as more auto sales/rapings will be headed away from dealerships" and are made exponentially worse by price fixing which is anti-consumer.

Ford has backpedaled from Rivian big time. My guess is that the prospectus looked good and then after they bought in they saw the shit show

They'll have to redesign the truck by the time it's actually produced.

So they say next summer. Of course, that'll be further delayed, but it'll start with only their most expensive models which will be far more than the $70K that's been reported. So by the time it's actually available at a reasonable cost, we're looking at mid-2022 at the earliest at which point the design will be about 5 years old.
