New Maverick Pickup Won't Be A Bronco Variant But Will Have 162 HP And A Manual Transmission
There aren't too many details available yet about the Ford Maverick compact pickup, at least until now. On the Maverick Chat forum, a person claiming to work for a supplier has released a bevy of alleged details about the little truck.

The Maverick will debut with a four-door body. This person claims that the bed is around two feet shorter than a Ranger, "depending on configuration." For comparison, the Ranger with the SuperCrew body has a 61-inch cargo area and the SuperCab is 72.8 inches. If this insider's numbers are accurate then the rear of the new model would measure about 37 inches to 48.8 inches.

Of course the Transit Connect is largely a Ford Focus...which is an Escape...which is a Bronco Sport.

What the Ford representatives have said over the past year has been conflicting with the ping-ponging of the name from Courier then to Maverick. We were told that it was essentially a LWB Escape with a bed, but the Transit Connect angle is curious and quite clever. If they haven't changed the styling away from it being an Escape pickup, which was their early plan supposedly, then this will be dead in the water as buyers think the Escape is ugly. Perhaps erroneously, one representative said it was styled like a Bronco Sport pickup.

Matt: I am a Ford guy but when Ford screws up I pounce. Not surprised that you as a dealer got conflicting information. Any company (in this case Ford) that would whore out the Mustang name, is screwed in the head from the foundation up to the top floor of their headquarters

A compact pickup is a good idea but I think it will need an optional higher hp engine. If you load anything in the bed like dirt bikes, maybe a trailer with an ATV, 162hp won't handle the mountains.

Perfect solution for mall security and pool cleaning companies. They don't need to buy an expensive Ford Ranger or Toyota Tacoma for that type of jobs. I guess Chevy will bring it's Corsa pickup as well. Manual transmission, no power windows, vinyl seats = profit maker, no electric vehicle will attempt to compete in this market.

Fiat had the perfect product to bring, but they chickened out.

Just make the same size as the compact Ford Ranger pre 2012

That's pretty much what the result will be in terms of size.
