How Often SHOULD You Wash Your Car And How Often Do You?

So you want to turn your perpetually dirty car into a shining example of cleanliness. Great! Your automobile and your neighbors thank you.

Like cleaning a kitchen, keeping a vehicle in tip-top shape requires discipline, persistence, and a positive mindset, because it’s a never-ending uphill battle. There are only a few hours, maybe minutes, when the car will be as perfectly clean as your OCD mind wants it, but washing the vehicle is not only good for aesthetics, it’s great for the vehicle’s health, as well.

In a normal world, mine are washed once a week by hand (myself). In a Covid-19 world its about every two weeks or so as they get dusty. All vehicles are garage kept.

THere was a time when I washed my cars weekly - and Waxed Seasonally - then as Waxes became better - every 6 months. But then I stopped when it became the Kids job.

Today - at 82 - I have not done it for a while again- that is part of the Driver's Job (I still mostly drive myself though)

Full professional detailing at least once per month. More frequently if needed.

If you live in the rust belt, getting it washed with the under belly spray option is very key. In the other seasons whenever it needs it.

Impressive, waxing is what most people wont do.

The 2012 Clubman looks flawless with a super high gloss. People comment on it all of the time.

Granted, we only have two vehicles that are outside that we own. The toys get washed and waxed FAR less frequently because they are far less exposed. My company cars get drive-through washing but no waxing. If a car needs waxing, I just take it to work, the detailers go for it, and they get paid off the books out of my pocket.
