Audi's R8 And TT May Fall Victim To Cost Cutting

Not only are traditional cars losing ground to crossovers and SUVs, but certain sports and super cars are not doing that well either, as customers are drawn to electrified models – and the trend is going nowhere but up.

As a result, automakers have started reshuffling their lineup, and besides chasing after the high-riding vehicle segments with as many models as possible, they are also venturing deeper into the electric game.

Why doesn't Audi build an R8 SUV and a smaller TT SUV? Give the public what they want.

No one buys the TT and as a sports car it's pretty lame given how expensive it is. The Audi Fiero is an example of a halo car that does NOTHING for the brand. They should have bitten the dust 5 years ago.

The TT is a GTI with a different body, so the $45K base is 25% too high

The R8 needs to be the Corvette of the Audi world and that means it has to be attainable.

With shifting trends and economic realities, there is just enough volume in the sports car segment between $30K to $150k to support Mx-5, Corvette and Porsche. All the rest will be gone soon.

No one will be shedding tears over these cancellations.

The only person who liked the Audi R8 was Stradman (until he could afford a Lambo Gallardo and then ditched his R8).

The TT is a $60,000, less spacious, VW GTI.

...and...given VW groups' penchant for platform-sharing, I'm surprised that the Audi R8 wasn't cancelled and replaced with a two-seat, mid-engined W12 Bentley for $350,000.

It could have been named "Bentley Windborne WASP"

More like they are falling victim to no sales, especially the TT. Don't get me wrong, I'd buy a TTRS in a heartbeat, if there weren't more compelling options at its price.
