RIP Fusion: Ford Kills Off Last Remaining Sedan In Lineup
This is how the sedan ends. Not with a bang, but with a whimper. This week Ford phased out the last remaining blue oval-branded sedan. At its height in 2014, the Fusion moved over 300,000 units, but Ford only managed to push about 60,000 units out the door in the first half of 2020. Obviously there are extenuating circumstances when you consider 2020 sales numbers, but Ford has been planning a phase-out of all non-Mustang cars for a couple of years now, and it’s finally made that happen.

When Ford announced it was killing the Fusion YEARS before the actual discontinuation it submarined sales. Had Ford said NOTHING, sales would have been better. We've had people discover with surprise that the Fusion was still in production and we've not had problems selling them. Ford needs a sedan. Going from 4 to 0 is mismanagement.

Plain old dumb... If this came from the top, it's no wonder the CEO is toast...

Folks I know who own the Fusion love it. It looked good. And it didn't suffer the tremendous gap in quality and refinement that older American sedans used to suffer against their Asian rivals.

As I always say, there's always going to be a market for sedans. Albeit smaller than before. While brands abandon the sedan, then those that remain will thrive.

This is going to exactly like the small truck market.

Everyone abandons it except Toyota (Tacoma)because there arent enough sales.

A few years later they all say "look at those Tacoma sales" and they make another small truck to compete

Now they all have a small truck in the game and slice the pie too thin again.

I had two Fusion SEs a company cars and they were amazingly good for the very reasonable price.

009, that is a good argument for an industry consolidation.

I had a 2014 Fusion SE that I liked so much I traded it in on an MKZ. It was a great car, it just needed a new dash and a more economical engine.
