2020 Corvette Recalled Over Hood Flying Open At Speed

Last month, owners of the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray discovered an alarming safety issue with the mid-engine sports car. When driving, some owners have found the hood/frunk can release without warning, blocking their view of the road. This is obviously very dangerous and could cause a serious accident.

Luckily, no accidents or injuries relating to this problem have been reported yet, but the NHTSA has received several complaints from owners.

Where are these getting assembled? With all the high speed testing they do, there's likely not a design/engineering issue but a manufacturing quality issue.

All Corvettes are manufactured in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Yes, the UAW is there.

In fairness to GM, who made the hatch/lock for the frunk? Clearly it is not doing its job. Curious as this is a car tested at much higher speeds than your average vehicle as @cidflekken points out. Very strange.

Corvette UAW worker's mind sez: They don't need all these supid hood bolts. I will only install half of them and won't tighten them so the bolts don't get stressed. Yea, that a good idea.

Actually it Is more of a design mistake, many (but not all) midEngine cars hinge their front compartment At the forward edge instead of the back edge near the windshield to prevent this from happening. Early Maserati Boras had the same issue, they simply changed the hinge location.
