Hostile Environment: Uber And Lyft May Pull Out California Over New Regulations
The companies have been fighting to continue classifying their drivers as independent workers, avoiding expenses like healthcare and unemployment insurance for hundreds of thousands of drivers in the state. Last year, they failed to block a bill aimed at classifying gig workers as employees from becoming state law, and then, as of Monday, failed to convince a court the law should not apply to them.

Bu-Bye. These firms offer little value, are unregulated (no commercial insurance mandate for drivers) and just cause further congestion. The bigger revenue driver for Uber is now their Eats division. WFH has an impact.

Can’t wait to hear the snowflakes in Cali complain. Innovation sparks competition, which results in better consumer prices. But the dictators in Cali don’t get that and will tell you what to do and how to live your life.

This is really stupid on Califonia's part, I am not a fan of Uber as a company but side with them here. The over-reaching regulation will mean tens of thousands of people out of a job, higher prices for transportation, and fewer options for consumers. I remember the Uber Black days and it was not cheap.

On the flip-side, I guess they were all going to lose their jobs anyway with self-driving cars, so at least California will take the blame for the job losses versus technology.

Not to mention increases in DUI and ultimately deaths, as people will drive home on their own when bars reopen.

@Jeff So you're saying that we need to maintain uber/lift so people can be socially irresponsible?

@cc Locally, the cabs typically are prostitute/druggie rides in dilapidated Crown Vics

@MD- Cabs in Toronto are mainly Toyota Camry's now. Hybrids too. Airport limo's are Lexus ES and RX350's. I miss the old Town cars.

I can't remember the last time I saw a cab in Silicon Valley. Everyone takes Uber/Lyft.

The cabs are run by corrupt cabbie unions. The drivers are thugs and criminals. Their cabs are dirty filthy pieces of garbage that are not maintained. Of course the People's Republic of California has a vested interested in protecting criminal union drivers. That's the way the liberals of the state operate - allow their preferred supporters to continue ripping off the public while delivering shit service.
