Former BMW Designer Shows Off This Labor Of Love. His Bahama Yellow Porsche 912. What's YOUR Favorite Classic?
“As a kid I remember always watching my dad laying underneath a car, the feet sticking out. I always had so much respect for the way he took care of cars.”

A true labour of love: this is the beautifully told story of Anders Warming, his father, and their Bahama Yellow Porsche 912. Follow Anders’ incredible road to meticulously restoring his father's 912 Porsche after his passing, paying homage to his legacy as a person and Porsche-lover, Anders' own passion for cars, as well as to the 912 itself.

I rebuilt a '69 Beetle. It wasn't running (bad clutch) and had some rust issues. The biggest reason I chose it was my daughters both wanted to learn to drive a stick. I put the younger in a 200SX SE-R (I had no idea what a rocket ship it was when I bought it) and I rebuilt the VW for the older. I left the engine stock, except swapped the generator for an alternator. I also added two under-seat blowers to the heat channels, and it was the first Beetle that I ever really felt warm in. After all the body work, painted it a nice ivory white, and my daughter drove it for several years.

The youngest has three kids now, so she needs a van, and the Pacifica doesn't have a manual. The oldest stayed with manuals until she broke her leg badly and can't use a clutch well any longer.

My first car - which I now own again - was a 1939 Chevy Master 3 speed on the Column. So - Obviously I am from a different Generation than most here

If I really really thought about doing that one last time - THere are a Number of Ferraris that I would consider - the dream - a 250 Testa Rosa but the reality is - even though I really can afford one - the time for me to ENJOY one has unfortunately passed.

I have a thing for Jensens and the Jensen Coupe has needed more work than originally thought.

My labor of love was a nightmare. I bought an Iso Grifo for three times what it was actually worth once the nightmares were revealed. It looked to be in excellent condition so I paid that price.

Fortunately, it uses a lot of Corvette parts, but unfortunately there was a lot of metal fabrication needed to make it safe for the road. The "reno" cost was staggering and would have been more so if we had done a faithful restoration.

That was a decade or more ago and now the research that goes into knowing what to look for always gets done as well as learning a lot from body shop guys as to what to look for and what costs what to repair.

1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4. As a young man heard one then saw it come over a rise. Still clear as day in my mind and ears. They once were modest priced used cars but not now.
