GM Tries To Combat High Absenteeism On Assembly Line With White Collar Workers - UAW Cries Foul
General Motors Co. is using salaried staff for assembly-line work at its Missouri truck plant to cope with high absenteeism and strong demand for the pickups made at the factory. So what does the labour agreement say about all this? A contract is a contract. If allowed all is well. If not permitted by the wording in the contract, then a meeting is required. I highly doubt this particular situation was not covered.

If GM is doing it - I am sure that there is a clause in the Contract that allows it - even if only Temporarily - especially in the case that they are actively bringing in other union employees from other plants. Otherwise - the lawsuit would be epic.

It establishes a precedent. For instance if the UAW strikes then GM can put non union workers on the line and have new leverage in the talks.

I don't think they can bring in workers from the outside to fill the positions, but these workers are internal, something that wasn't considered until Honda did it.

It's time to break the UAW.

Get rid of these unions. They do nothing except take the dues and funnel them to the dhimocraps.

I guess the Vette's doors will be the next thing to fall off; with less supervision we will get less quality.
