Mercedes S-Class Drops Cammo - Is It Us, Or Does It Look An Awful Lot Like A Genesis To You Too?

Mercedes is putting the final touches on the upcoming S-Class, which is set to debut on September 2 during a special event that will be live-streamed online.

A very late test car was once again spotted by our spies, featuring very little camouflage on areas like around the headlights and the rear fascia, leaving the rest of the car completely naked.

Yes it does. While I understand why they only make subtle changes (not to shock their loyal older base) manufacturers in my eyes are much more venturesome and interesting when designing their electric offerings to gain attention and project an image of the future. Its as though they save their best design ideas for EV's.

Plain Jane from Portland Main... ouch that is one generic looking bar of soap... so disappointing. Could have been awesome, but instead, so close to the old car that it may not be an improvement at all... interior will be nice, IF you don't have to look at the outside of the S-oap class car when you walk up to it...

You act like this is the first time you've heard of or seen a product of Mercedes. The designs of their cornerstone models are always conservative and any subsequent generation is an evolution.

Your mother must have dropped you on your head more than once, MB design is not always imperceptible, while your claim is interesting, it is not factual. When MB changed the W116 (1972-1980) to W126 (1980-1991)-to W140 (1991-1998) to W220 (1998-2005) to W221 (2006-2013) there was no way you could mistake on for the other, it was only since 2013 with the W222 that the design language got stuck in the soap bar design that is now imperceptibly changed to the general public. Since you know your cars so well I would have assumed before you speak you would think and use that vast knowledge to understand the facts not your impulse response of pure idiocy. But alas, the head trauma as a child has caught up with you dipstick.

Nothing "Genesis" about this. Looks like a modern S-Class. Conservative with presence. I don't like the taillights, though.

No Genesis here...I wish they hadn’t gone with the goody door handles like Porsche. Just tech for tech sake.

The new S-Class does not look new. It looks more like a 'mid-cycle' refresh. In fact, the doors, roof and rear window look exactly the same as the prior model.

I am very let down by the complete lack to 'surface detailing' on the new body.

It looks like "Genesis-Class" by virtue of the cheap and boring sheet-metal design.

I'm not saying that the BMW 750i is a beauty queen in comparison, but compare themn side-to-side and you'll note that the 750i has complex and well-executed surface detailing that the new S-Class lacks.

Similarly, the Bentley Flying Spur is the king of surface detailing and this MB comes nowhere close to that highest standard. Porsche Panamera and Taycan have nice surface detailing also.

The new S-Class is in the "Audi A8" and "Genesis" class when is comes to boring body design (plus I really do think they carried over the hard-points (doors, roof, glass) from the 7-year old version).

Gonna murder the competition sales wise at a much higher price point than the competition as usual.

It's nice.

It took me a while to warm up to the current generation too, so maybe I need to live with it a little longer.

Overall, I don't think the front end is successful in being either imposing or elegant, and that's what lets it down the most.

Guaranteed the Koreans have a mole spy inside of Mercedes and they stole the design.

No...Mercedes just cost-cut with the steel stampings. Body is as plain as a Hyundai.

If the new S model looked like the sketch, it would be a winner. But alas, it looks more a lowly Hyundai with an MB badge.
