Study Find Telsa Model 3 Is 65% Greener Than a Mercedes C-Class

A new study looked into the lifetime emissions of electric vehicles versus gas-powered counterparts and concluded that Tesla Model 3 emits about 65% less lifetime emissions than the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

For years, automakers and the fossil fuel industry have pushed the idea that electric vehicles are worse for the environment than diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles because they are powered by dirty electricity.

And 100% more likely to have gaping panel gaps, mismatched trims, loose door trimmings, and premature Rusting so it all balances out

Also doesn't require any maintenance for 4 years, maybe you have an appointment or two early on to fix mistakes but you then won't see a service station for a really long time.

I only know one Y owner personally, but no issues at all on that one. Not every customer is going to have quality issues.

That’s good, quality issues like those shouldn’t be a thing in 2020, and as long as the “autopilot” doesn’t ram you into the side of a semi truck, you should enjoy those maintenance free years

What about the effects of manufacturing the batteries and the recycling/disposable to batteries? Was that considered in this research?

Since they evaluated lifetime emissions, then the answer is yes, they did.

Lifetime emissions of the car would not necessarily include the emissions made during the production of the batteries because they would not be a "car".

The linked article didn't go into detail (but they did link the complete study), but the source of electricity has a significant influence on the wheels to well calculations. I would assume they took some sort of average for electricity generation, because if they didn't then their report is also flawed.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, the majority of our power is either hydro, wind, or other renewable source, so emissions from that is on the very low side. We still have a few coal plants, but they will be completely shut down within 4 years. Natural gas also provides a smaller percentage, but other renewables are coming online and will slowly displace them as well.

So for my location, that percentage might be closer to 75% cleaner.

How long does it take for a Tesla Battery to deplete and disappear from Earth????? That's alot longer than a Mercedes C class to disappear.

You both know better. Batteries this size are recycled, not dumped. They can still have a long life as a storage device for solar systems, and the internal materials can be reused in new batteries.
