Automakers Struggle To Remain Green When Minerals They Need Are So Dirty To Mine

Electric vehicle manufacturers are already struggling to maintain supply lines as demand for batteries increases in practically every industry in existence. Automakers have recently begun branching out to secure the raw materials necessary for their production while also trying to cozy up to battery suppliers who already know they have them over a barrel. Some, like Tesla, have even built their own facilities for battery production.

In August, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the automaker would offer favorable deals to companies that could mine nickel in an ecologically friendly manner and help ensure it has an adequate supply of the metal for batteries. But there’s a problem:

Say it isn't so!!! Sorry but being green is totally bullshit when you really dissect down to the core, strip away the subsidies or look how these green products are really made. It is all just a facade and con job and I'm an actual environmentalist big on recycling, reduction etc...

I don't remember anyone complaining about 5 Cent pieces being made of nickel. Or the countless other uses for the this metal. If the industry is not clean it is their own fault the the government's fault for not insisting on cleaner mining practices. Complaining that BEV's are not green because they use the same Nikel that is in an ICE car battery or steel alloy truck frame or jet engine is a bit stupid.
