Chevrolet Adds Second Shift To Corvette Assembly Plant

Chevrolet has started a second shift at the Corvette Assembly Plant, meaning those with C8 orders might not have to wait as long as initially expected before taking delivery.

It is understood that Chevrolet began a second shift at the plant on August 31. While operating a single shift, the Bowling Green site was building approximately 95 vehicles per day but on September 1, the first full day where both shifts were operating, 140 C8 Corvettes were built.

I guess there is a hold up somewhere in the supply line? If you can do 95 on one shift, a 2nd shift seems only capable of 45 units? Or does the line go slower as it is a night shift?

Just a guess, but probably not fully staffed on the swing shift.

There’s a learning curve for any new shift, even in a Toyota plant. I would be worried if startup output immediately matched The 1st shift because it would mean quality is being neglected.

The Trump economy is providing many buyers. A very good economy indicator.

Indeed. Car sales are strong if you can get supply.

The use of a Lease as the Primary way to 'get" a car has pretty much changed the way the system reacts when an economic problem happens. Cars coming off lease still have to be replaced - and the customers really cannot afford a purchase - either through a long term loan or through cash. SO more cars are leased. But that still counts as a sale for the manufacturers. Add in that usage of cars is off - people just are not driving as much as they once were. ANd that won't change until we have a Vaccine - and the need for quarantine and social distancing and masks goes away. BUT- the unemployment payment situation means that will only last so long. Many are still getting paid for working at home -and can afford a car because they still make the money. But others are going to lose their houses.
