Where Were YOU During The 'GOLD PACKAGE' Era Of Cars? And Did You Ever Do it To YOUR Ride? TELL THE TRUTH!
Everyone remembers certain moments in life like they were yesterday.

Thursday, I was out and about and i came across something I hadn't seen in a while but rekindled the nostalgic era of cars with the GOLD PACKAGE!

Top offenders? Cadillac, Toyota, Lexus. Many others had it but those are the brands I remember MOST.

In fact, dare I say it...I HAD a Lexus LS400 in the day outfitted with the badging. Must have been channeling my inner Tony Manero!

Do you remember the era (late 80's-90's) when it was EVERYWHERE?

Tell us where you were, what you drove AND did YOU ever have a car with it.

I told the truth, so I'm expecting the SAME from you!

Spies, discuss.

A very sad option for any car. I alway shook my head when I saw cars or SUV's offered that way. The same thing bothers me today when Aston Martin offers the customization of their logo. You can get it in carbon fibre (bad) and have the option of colouring the wings in the logo if you like (stupid). Ferrari will send you a cease and desist order if you choose a poor paint colour. They would likely tell you to f*ck off and refuse to sell you a car if you wanted to mess with the prancing horse. And rightly so...

Lexus was the most egregious proponent of the stupid gaudy gold packages. And no I never wanted anything gold on my car, and I especially didn't want a boring Lexus.

Late 80s in Germany in the Air Force. I don't think the Gold package was ever a thing over there. When I came back it was already starting to be a thing in the US. I never did like it and never had a car with it. I wonder if in 10-15yrs we will look back at the black packages/badging the same way? I don't think so but....

Isn't it worse now when every car comes with an optional blackout package. In 20 years we will be talking bad about it, just like now.

I would avoid any car with the Gold package, But I think I hate blacked out rims even more.

If a "Gold package" was seen by a "BUYER" as a reason why they felt it gave the product additional prestige - and as a result more people bought more profitable versions (for the seller) of the product - the Package did its job. WHile these thing some time come and go - think about the time when the "feature" most publicized was an electric starter.

Black and green cars can look handsome with gold. But growing up, this was not on the radar because no one in my family could afford new cars much less a gold package. I think I recall seeing this feature most on green Avalons.

i used to see the gold pack on some Benz & Lexus models. maybe a few Accords. Was never really that popular & often look so corny - most people just ignored it.

It was the fashion at the time. Just like brass fixtures in homes were in style in the 90s/2000s, then fell out of style, and now brushed brass is back in style. The gold logos will come back at some point.

Yeah, this was the rage back then. Relatives who bought fully loaded Lexus, Benz, and Toyotas, tended to opt for this in the era of the 100-Series shown above.

As a 10-11 year old,, I mistakenly took it for being "Premium Package", thinking every car with these gold badges had every option ticked.

Two decades ago my parents being Jaguar and BMW owners, didn't really do stuff like this. The hood leapers stayed chrome and the roundels as-is.

Reminds me of why I love Agent 001's posts, as it mostly keeps things positive/neutral versus political.
