How Long Until The Bean Counters At Nissan Turn The Z Proto Into A SUV?
Something monumental occurred in the auto-verse this week. A vehicle over a decade old is finally close to retirement, as evidenced by its replacement – albeit in prototype form – being revealed. Of course, we're talking about the Nissan Z Proto, which is a near-production prototype that will replace the aged 370Z in the next couple of years. But could it be more than a two-seat sports car?

Honestly, they'd be stupid not to consider it. But should be for the Infiniti side. The FX was sort of the Z of SUVs at the time and set the trend that is now pretty popular. Why not get back into the fray?

actually, a small Z-based SUV was the rumor a couple years ago.

automakers were accepting that the SUV craze WAS a real trend. why develop another 2-door when the easy money was anything "SUV".

It's definitely better looking than the French-meets-Japanese styling atrocities that their current cars are.

Do a 400Z (sports car) and a 400ZX (crossover).

I'm fine with it if the result is a good product. A "Z" poorman's Macan? Sure, why not? The bigger move is to bring electrification to Infiniti to make it relevant again.

They should ditch Infiniti, elevate Nissan slightly to Buick/Acura level, and then fortify Mitsubishi below.

Why are they always called 'Bean Counters?"

They haven't been counting any beans in decades. Seems to be extremely denigrating.

Nissan is not Ford. I hear that Ford is going to announce a GT-40 SUV.

You're correct. Nissan is not Ford. Nissan adores hideous styling. Nissan rejoices in poor quality and abysmal reliability. Nissan knows the CVT will die by 50,000 miles and put it on sale anyway. Nissan is in deep shit reskinning their outdated products and hoping for the best.
