Rivian And Just About Any Other Startup Face Uphill Battle In Protectionist Michigan

Michigan auto dealers are trying to block startup electric carmakers such as Rivian Automotive Inc. and Lucid Motors Inc. from following in Tesla Inc.’s footsteps by selling vehicles directly to consumers and servicing them in the state.

A bill introduced in the Michigan Legislature last week would block any manufacturer other than Tesla from selling cars to customers without a dealer as an intermediary and from owning and operating service and repair facilities. It could come up for a vote as soon as Tuesday, according to a Rivian official.

Let me guess, it is a GOP bill? I think the rest of the state house knows which road leads to the future. It's not protecting ICE dealers or limiting competition.

As an aside, like Obi-Wan Kenobi, the GOP is going to find that RBG as influential as she was alive, as a symbol, she will be even more powerful. The GOP may cease to exist after the next election cycle. Good riddance. #bluewave

@mbcls07 - I am responding to you now (she is in custody and crazy) so no. While there are many nice people and nice parts of America, the GOP as of late has done it no favours.

And Rivian or any other maker should be allowed to sell their wares in any State however they want to.
