CEO Elon Musk outlined Tesla Inc.'s plans to cut electric vehicle battery design and manufacturing costs so radically that a $25,000 car that drives itself will be possible, but the automaker's shares slipped as Musk forecast the change could take three years.

Musk acknowledged that Tesla does not have its ambitious new vehicle and battery designs and manufacturing processes fully complete.

So like the 3 which was supposed to be like $35K and never made that happen and they all are $45K +, $25K will be like $35K in reality and look just like every other model they make. Boring jellybeans. I'll pass.

There is a $35k version of the Model 3 today, and it has better specs than what was originally announced for the base car.

$45K+ is the reality. VW has base models, but they never make it to market.

I think the ASP is around $45k, yeah. It might even be a little higher. Theoretically you can get a $35k one, but it isn't on the website and you have to go through hoops. The $38k one is a better value anyway (more range, better performance, basic Autopilot, better interior options).

FAQMD: I am the opposite of a Tesla Fan Boy but I do not like to see these things happen. Every MFG. has problems.
