California Declares Death Of Fossil Fuel Vehicle Sales By 2035
Gov. Gavin Newsom is calling for California to ban new gasoline-fueled vehicles within 15 years in a bid to combat climate change and make the state the first in the nation to stop sales of cars with internal combustion engines.

The Democratic governor announced Wednesday that he is signing an executive order that directs the California Air Resources Board to establish regulations requiring that all new cars and passenger trucks sold in California in 2035 be zero-emission vehicles.

ctsang: Educate me and let me know how this will be accomplished. Keep in mind that California has rolling blackouts and brownouts because solar and wind are not enough to power the grid. How will electric vehicles get charged?

He isn't concerned about that. It's all about looking good.

The blackouts and brownouts aren't occurring as a result of "solar and wind not being enough to power the grid." That is an incorrect assumption on your part.

They are happening because of a combination of record breaking heat and wildfires brought on by changes in the environment.

The governor's order is an attempt to address a root cause of this man-made disruption.

A majority of the wildfires have been arson compounded by the lack of forest management

If pretty boi Newsome was really concerned about the environment and fossil fuels, he'd mandate that all new housing be built with solar. Instead what he's doing is pandering to the environmental wackos. All that's going to happen is there will be massive energy blackouts for the foreseeable future.

Mandating solar would be a genius move.

Why not let buyers decide what they want?

Fires were a result of non-existent forestry management.

Even if Kalifornia was 100% green it's not like the air from other countries can be prevented from entering the state.

The only "changes to the environment" that occurred, was the runaway building of homes in the state combined with overly aggressive fighting of forest fires. Forests in their natural state rely on lightning caused fires to clean out the underbrush. In fact some species of trees require heat from fires for their seeds to germinate. The runaway growth of housing into areas proximal to forests has resulted in aggressive fire fighting that has allowed the fuels on the forest floor to build up. Hence when we do have a fire, it becomes a conflagration.

Blaming these fires on global warming is a misdirect aimed at bolstering the false narrative pushed by the far left.

The fact of the matter is California's energy infrastructure is woefully inadequate. This is the direct responsibility of the far left, which has controlled the state for decades.

Won't matter, no one will be buying ICE cars outside of novelty in the 5-10 years in CA. EVs are already 10% of new sales and there will be major EV price drops as well as the introduction of entry level models by 2025. I would be shocked if they don't beat the 2035 goal.

As much as I like EVs I don't think it's the politicians jobs to be telling people what to drive. If EVs are indeed a better choice people will eventually choose them anyway. If they are not yet why force them on people?

vdiv, I agree with that as well. I also think all federal subsidies and tax incentives should be dropped for both EVs and oil.

At one point it might be worth returning California to Mexico and Puerto Rico to Spain.
