REVIEW: VW Fans Have Been Waiting THIRTEEN YEARS For A Tiguan R. Was It WORTH The Wait?

REVIEW: VW Fans Have Been Waiting THIRTEEN YEARS For A Tiguan R. Was It WORTH The Wait?
It enters a highly competitive class but, on the evidence of this first drive, the Tiguan R will provide stiff competition to the likes of the Audi SQ2, BMW X2 M35i and Cupra Ateca.

There’s outstanding accuracy to the variable-ratio steering and, with reduced ride height together with firmer springs and dampers, admirable body control. By compact performance SUV standards, the handling is quite fluid, if a little lacking in outright feedback.

It’s the ride that really stands out, though. The adaptive dampers provide the suspension with great control and the ability to deliver acceptably compliant properties in Comfort mode and significantly more sporting characteristics in either Sport or Race modes, even on the optional 21in wheels fitted to our test car.

If you prefer to watch a video review we thought it would only be fitting to have you view one that includes at NO extra charge, the freaky German accent version.

It will be a 2022 when it arrives here.

A Tiguan GTI would be a better move for the USA, but even that would result in an overpriced vehicle.

A Tiguan R is bound to be a $50K+ machine in the USA and that is exactly the kind of product VW does NOT need.

But even if it were a good move, it's not going to be available until 2022???? VW has a long history of developing a new product and making the USA wait. Given the crossover-crazy market here, they should have deployed the Tiguan R here FIRST.

It should either be a 'GTI' or perhaps a Tiguan 'GLI' (like the Jetta GLI so as to not tarnish the GTI brand).

The Tiguan GTI would be a decontented Tiguan R with only the bigger engine, the sporty interior, sportier suspension, and the sporty trim.

The Type R does not sell in American because the GTI is all people need

MDarringer - calling it the Tiguan GTI is beyond dumb. Since you think you are full of good ideas - Ford & Kia are calling.....ring ring - answer the phone.
