The Nissan Z Proto is one of the most exciting cars from the Japanese automaker for many years and has the potential to revive interest in the struggling brand.

For now, the car is officially referred to as a prototype, but it is thought to be very similar to what the production car will look like. The Z Proto’s looks appear to have divided opinions across the internet, and in this clip from JDM Masters, which was filmed at the Nissan Pavilion in Yokohama, Japan, we’re provided with an up-close look at it.

Only if they swap out that 20 years-old platform

It's the horrible 350Z for the 3rd time.

The 350z was far better than the Mustang that Ford was selling at the time, and has aged far better. Go back and look at the 2004 Mustang. Fucking hideous.

Better? That's a fine one. Transmissions ground themselves to death. The brake issues were catastrophic. Reliability was nonexistent. The cars fell apart quickly.

In terms of styling, Nissan gave enthusiasts exactly what they've been asking for. A retro-modern design that pays homage to the 240z. I'm not completely sold on the execution of the rear end, though I like the inspiration. Hopefully, the production model will improve upon it. As for the complaints about the "old" platform, the outgoing 370z NISMO is lighter, pulls more Gs, stops shorter, has a tighter turning radius, is safer and more reliable than the Mustang GT. There's nothing wrong with the platform or the engine. That said, I'd prefer Nissan would have launched the new Z as the first performance EV for the brand, building on their experience with the LEAF.

You do realize EVs are still niche products catering to wealthy people, right? Not to mention the charging infrastructure or the battery technology is not ready for the masses yet. Your expectations are unrealistic.

The platform has a plethora of well-documented issues, asshole.

LMAO You can deny all you want but the fact is in 2019, global electric light vehicles make up only 2.5% of all car sales.
